Nice find! I've never gotten a proof in change, but non-collectors I know have, and I've gotten some from the bank too. Haven't ever found proofs of anything smaller than a quarter though.

Same here... I have added a lot of 1965-1972 proofs to circulation!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Yes! Tons of them though I'm sure most dealers would be quite willing to pay 20 back of face.....................delivered!

I recently found a 1963 proof nickel on the ground while walking.

Finding a proof coin while walking is pretty cool. Never had that happen.

Although I did manage to find a 1969-D 1c without the FG designer's initials in a parking lot.

Sold it for $15. Some people make fun of people for picking up coins on the ground....I wonder if those same people would pass up $15 in bills laying on the ground? lol

SilverPop: I have found the following S mint proofs in circulation:

5c 1968-S, 1983-S (already worn to XF) I carry now as a pocket piece, it's nearly VG now

    25c 1968-S (2), 1972-S, 2001-S Vermont Clad

That's it. And that's after more than 40 years of looking through change, not necessarily roll searching though.

I would imagine they're out there but in extremely small quantities.
