2016 ATB quarter proof sets w/ "Error" Box

telephoto1telephoto1 Posts: 4,966 ✭✭✭✭✭
So they messed up and printed an incorrect Cumberland Gap NP photo on the boxes. Will these be anything special? Perhaps 11,000-12,000 were shipped before the mistaken photo was brought to light, but being an error in packaging rather than an actual numismatic error I'm not seeing anything except a possible short term interest in these. Your thoughts?

If you sell it on eBay and really hype this packaging error you may get a small premium. Not many people collect packing errors and the production number is fairly high.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Packaging errors like that could possibly bring

a premium - depends on how easily seen the

    ''error" is -

Can you post a normal box and the 'error photo' box?

As you mentioned, if there are thousands of them, that

automatically means there's more of 'em around than

there are collectors for them.......and if the photo difference

isn't easily seen, or the photo is small, that would probably

preclude any premium after they're on Ebay for a few weeks!

Here is a link to a story showing the error picture. Apparently the falls in the image are actually part of a state park a short distance away from Cumberland Gap NP. I guess there is no "normal" box until they remake them. The inference is that they need to remake all the boxes for the full PS and silver qtr. PS as well.
