Gold Sovereigns Struck in India
I was looking on e-Bay for some gold Sovereigns for my collection when I encountered this listing: '2014 Gold half Sovereign struck in India 3.994 grams grams by royal mint.' Link I was intrigued by this listing and clicked on it. After reading the listing and doing a little online research, I learned that the Royal Mint did, in fact, contract with a company in India to strike Sovereigns in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Half Sovereigns were struck in 2014, at least. The dies were made by the Royal Mint and sent to MMTC-PAMP, the company in India. They have the 'I' mint mark, just like the 1918 issues.
I guess I was just asking if anyone had heard of these coins and for opinions on them. Personally, I think they are pretty cool and am thinking about getting one.

Well, just Love coins, period.
Interesting you brought this up as I wonder what the ultimate "truth" is with these. Keep us posted if you find more info!
+1.
It might be a publicity stunt but I like it. It is vaguely reminiscent of the US Mint's putting the Morgan Dollar reverse on the 2006 Old SF Mint Commemorative.
Even in Roman times India was a strong market for gold and given the pricing it looks like the BRM stands to make a packet in feeding the demand. I suppose outsourcing production was part of the deal.
