  Yes, but it is usually a database error. You can call PCGS and ask about the one you are looking for.

  If it's a freshly graded coin, it might take a short time to populate. That's the main reason.

  just so long as your screen doesn't lock with a note that local law enforcement is enroute and to stay put

  it's either not entered yet or the cert number you're looking up is bogus

  Another reason may be, as in my case, the dealer broke it out and resubmitted to try for a higher grade and came back with another number but the same grade.
