I received an email from MCM about these unique coins. Or should I say 7 ounce silver Marbles?

Has anybody ever seen these?

Is anybody going to order any?



Has this taken the concept of "Changing the Shape of a Coin to Attract New Interest" to an "Uninteresting OMG WTH are they Thinking?" level?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.



The name is LEE!

    they came out not to long ago. The issue price was crazy compared to the amount of silver it in. I can think of our "coins" to buy with the money.....

    Are we stretching to the brink the definition of a coin? They certainly don't look like coins (as we think of them), and surely are not die struck. I guess they are legal tender but I would not call them coins.

    An article from Coin World all about this Polish Mint "Coin" produced for Niue Island.

    Actually they are die struck:



    To create a spherical coin, the Mint of Poland first prepared and evaluated a three-dimensional-model of the coin using Delcam’s modelling software ArtCAM. To assure the coin’s ideal spherical shape and map the images, engineers created a special six-piece die setup, with hammer (top) and anvil (bottom) dies joined with four collar dies on the sides.

    I like the thing and would buy one at around $200 but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,



    It is 34mm in diameter which is a little over 1 1/4"

    True, but on a positive note, if you could get a big enough rifle bore you could shoot them as a prepayment over to your local Walmart..........just a thought.

    I realize there is a link for one on ebay at approximately $1,600, if I read the thread correctly, but MCM has them listed currently for $868.60 for either proof or antiqued proof finishes.

    That's a lot of spondulix for what is essentially a novelty item. They'll be cheaper at some point imo.

    OK that's kind of neat. Highly impractical for manufacturing mass produced currency, but neat nonetheless.
