Retro Doily labels

Can a collectors club member get these?

I see they were availible at least in 2014.
They have a different font though.

I have not seen those. A new doily could include anti-counterfeiting features.

I've always wondered what the point was with this. The allure of an original doily is that it's rare. If you could order a new one at will, it wouldn't "count" as having an original rare one. Besides, it is by far the least attractive of the post-rattler labels. To each his own, I guess.

I thought Heritage was the only ones who got these?

I don't know the story behind these, but when they came out it was my impression that they were manufactured solely for use by one or two major modern submitters. Of course, I could be entirely wrong about this.

On January 22, 2014, I talked to Miguel at PCGS. He informed me that these were part of a Bulk Submission for ONE AUTHORIZED DEALER! That one dealer got the monopoly on these and was therefore allowed to make a good bit of money from these. These were not available to anyone else submitting to PCGS even if it is a bulk order. Miguel was unable to tell me who the ONE AUTHORIZED DEALER was. He was also unable to tell me the exact dates these were first produced or if they were still being done for this one dealer. He said he would call me back to let me know if he could share any additional information but ....

Miguel never did call me back but one forum member (MsMorrisine) said the authorized dealer was Liberty Coin. Others guessed the authorized dealer was Heritage. Since multiple examples showed up on Heritage and on eBay about the same time in January 2014....I would lend more belief that it was not Heritage and was most likely Liberty Coin.

    Hope that helps someone.

I am 100% certain the label was exclusive to Heritage.

I would be inclined to agree with Messydesk's first three sentences, but not the fourth. I always rather liked the doily design as a backdrop. Granted, it's busy, but attractive enough as a backdrop. It's the weird and impractically shaped Regency holders I think I are ugly, speaking of rare plastic.

A gentleman Numismatist always corrects discretely, preferably in the third tier of replies, lest he be made to look somewhat of an over-zealous arse when the correction is made.

Those are not exclusive to Heritage.

P.S. Notice to all the experts; I didn't mean to post this twice. I'm a newbie. I do make mistakes. Save the comments for some truly egrious future infraction on my part. I apologize for any anxiety this may have caused.

And if you sell the lable, don't leave any money on the tabel.

I find it interesting that in this hobby, what would be seemingly easy information to produce, distribute, and analyze is instead allowed (and even encouraged) to become apocrypha, legend, and heresay. I.e., what would the problem be for PCGS to just publish a little story in one of many venues that explained the Retro-Doily? Obviously, market players are using the 'Doily' cachet for some reason (if not the case, why not use a background of Caterpillar tractors, ocean scenes, or ancient Roman art?), so is this just some game with a strategy of gaining $5 or $10 extra per coin (oooooooohhhh, you BIG coin players!) for bullion?

Why not use transparency? After all, isn't transparency at the heart of third-party-grading? Why play games, and then make a retro label, who did them, and the number submitted comparable with Bigfoot and a Chupacabra?

Do we really need to elevate a contemporary label (lable) on a piece of cheesy bullion to that level? I was hoping to save legend and heresay for the 64-D Peace or the 74 Aluminum cent.

That's the PROBLEM. If I knew how to do that, then I wouldn't have posted it TWICE in the first place! Do you have any CONSTRUCTIVE advice? I'm a NEWBIE! And to make matters worse, my cap-lock key seems to be malfunctioning. HeLp, pLeAsE!

Hydrant, stop quoting yourself. It's unbecoming and makes you appear vain.
