Submitting coins already graded by PCGS, to include variety attribution

RichieURichRichieURich Posts: 8,628 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have some coins already graded by PCGS for which I want variety attribution. I don't need the coins regraded, the grades currently on the coins are appropriate. When I am filling out the PCGS submission form, how do I indicate this; i.e., is the "Type of Submission" Grading, Crossover, Regrade, Reholder, or Reconsideration? This situation isn't covered in the submission form instructions. Thanks for the help.

I've done it with Reholder with the variety attribution column checked. It's like, $25 or so.

I would just write in caps...VARIETY ATTRIBUTION ONLY on the form. And list the variety in the box for that.

    Rich,

I do this all the time for a customer for Buffalos

I check reholder for service and variety attribution for extra's. Never had a problem they'll just have to be on their own invoice.

Rick is correct. Reholder and attrib $12.00 + $18.00

this is correct. Variety attribution only is a reholder service. Then just check the boxes you want for attribution, photos, etc.

Reholder and attrib. I've done many, and it is easy to do. If you have a coin you think may upgrade it could be worth the couple of extra bucks.

I have done this many times using the Reholder service combined with variety attribution box being check. The one issue I have run into is with Major Varieties that don't require that box to be checked.

For instance, I found a 1909 VDB Doubled Die Obverse (FS-1101) in a PCGS MS65RD Holder last January. I just wanted to have Doubled Die Obverse added to the holder with the correct PCGS number on the label. Since this is a major variety for the series I did not have to pay for the $18 attribution fee, thus the box was left unchecked. I submitted the coin in holder to PCGS, but when the service was finished the attribution was not added to the holder. I called immediately and had them send this through for proper attribution. I was told that without that box being checked their was nothing to prompt the initial input into their system for someone to verify the variety, and that the coin is sent just to be reholdered.

    Good luck!
