Question about + grades

StoogeStooge Posts: 4,684 ✭✭✭✭✭
What do you look for in a coin that says to you that it is worthy of getting a + grade?

Is it the strike, luster, toning, etc...

I noticed that on occasion there is a coin such as one minted in the last year or 2 that receives a + designation. What would cause PCGS to give this grade out?

Later, Paul.

I have a hard time seeing how things get straight graded let alone + graded at times.

Hey Paul I would call it stupidity myself. I know you like the 66+FB Roosies and good luck as they are tough sometimes but I am trying to help you out.

I was thinking "tone" myself, strike quality is pretty much a standard across the board...isn't it? I have seen a couple of + (plus) coins and if my memory serves me right, they were toners to a degree.

I would think in terms of exceptional eye appeal. Just my silly newbie opinion.

I just made an 1942-S Jefferson in Ms66+FS. The fields show die polish lines but are very much PL. I don't know if that quality merited the + but I'll take it. It replaced the 66FS in my registry set

There are coins with gem attributes that have just one too many marks to be a 65. These are the + grades that I like to buy
