Ebay shipping insurance

SO I've been out of the selling thing for around a year and decided to sell some stuff over the last few weeks. Amazed at the amount of "could you cancel my purchase...my "buyer" changed his mind" ($28 win on a raw 2012 W ASE and 2012 W PF for $48)...multiple bid cancellations yada yada yada...
My issue is with Ebay printing of the USPS shipping label with insurance. A tad over $500 purchase and I thought it reasonable to insure it....paid on Ebay (USPS label with sig confirm) and the insurance was just under $10...whatever...
BUT....when actually reading what I paid for it seems that it is NOT USPS insurance but from a "third party"....(shipping to CA) and then informed that the company is not licensed in CA and the insurance does not cover ANY coins....
SO WTF is the purpose? I decided to say screw it and ship sig confirm with zero insurance since no insurance would seem to cover the same amount (zero)

It was done many years ago and tripped up a number of us a few times. Fortunately, I never had to make a claim with "Ship Cover". It is insidious that it even shows as an option for things it doesn't cover. It would be a simple enough code change to simply check the category before populating the dropdown. They could also allow you to choose one of them as your default insurer, but they (Ebay) don't...

The only good thing about Ship Cover being the default, is when you select USPS insurance - the price goes down.
