This past monday a patient of mine (I work in a small private practice radiology imaging clinic) noticed I had a Red Book sitting on the counter and asked me if I was a coin collector. We got to talking and he had been collecting about 10 years or so starting when he was 57 years old. He said he was lacking the 64 and 64-D Kennedy Halves from a complete set and that he was working on a circ and MS Buffalo Nick set and said he had to come back today to get some blood work done and he would bring them and let me take a look at what he had so far. Expecting just the run of the mill low grade coins in old whitman albums, I was pleasantly surprised to see he had a 2 Dansco albums. He showed me the circ set first and I was impressed at the quality of 95% of the coins. Lots of NICE better dates in better grades. Then he pulls out the MS set. Wow was I surprised. He's only missing 15 coins in the whole set and what was in there was choice material and beautiful, some awesomely toned and flashy. I just don't get to see that quality of coins around these parts as I only know 1 or 2 other collectors within like 50 miles. You just never know who's in this quiet hobby.

I'm extremely excited to just merely think about a particular dealer possibly garnering up enough energy to mail an expensive coin I paid for 5 days ago. Maybe he'll get around to it over the weekend while he's out enjoying my money and possibly finds a free moment. Yup, just call me Debbie Downer.

Hey, Wes, maybe you should leave a Numismatic publication lying around more often!!image

I always have it laid out in a conspicuous place as to potentially attract the attention of people who actually know what it is and figure whomever has this laid out in the open is interested in coins. At least 2 or 3 people per month comment on it and strike up a quick conversation about coins. Most of them are the normal "hammer Lincoln Cents into old blue whitman album" type collectors.
