What do you think of these 1960 Aaron & Mantle cards?

I recently purchased these, and they are really pretty. I do have some doubt as to their authenticity. Thoughts?

They look good to me from the scans, but I'll get my copies out to compare a little later. What are your concerns other than them being in great condition?

The text on the front just looks way too creamy, not crisp. And the colors on the back don't look quite right to my eyes. I hope I'm dead wrong, but I'm a bit nervous about these. And the large ZERO on the front appears to have slightly uneven curvature, possibly indicating pixeling, as though it was produced with computer software.

As I said, I hope I'm wrong, but I've got a bad feeling about this, Scooby Doo.

They are without a doubt, not original cards. Hopefully you bought them in a way that your money can be recovered.

Agreed. Didn't even have to spend a lot of time studying them to figure it out. Should be even easier to determine in person.

Just checked some of mine and agree with others, not real. The blue for the '6' and yellow/gold for the '0' on the front are way off from the real colors.

ETA: Scan for comparison.

This is the first time I've seen reprints of those two cards. I know the #350 Mantle has been forged before, but didn't think these would be worth enough to justify the effort.

It looks like they're coming from here. You didn't happen to be one of the lucky winners? When I mentioned about hopefully being able to get your money back I wasn't thinking about the loss of $2.25.

So this is the one you bought? And then this one from the same seller even though they are both listed in the title and description as reprints? Then post a thread asking if they are real?

I would have to guess the OP purchased these from one of the buyers of those reprint sales and didn't pick them up directly from someone who stated they were reprints.

They were not listed as reprints. The guy had very little feedback history, so I was a little suspicious from the start. However, I felt that the upside potential outweighed the downside, especially given the fact that eBay would almost certainly make me whole in the event that these were counterfeit and the seller would not honor a return. It was simply a risk I deemed worth taking.

When I notified the seller of my desire to return the cards, he responded as follows: "Hello,, I was selling these cards for a freind,, he assured me that they was authentic,, im so sorry for this inconvenience,, I will issue a full refund when I receive the cards back,, and again im sorry"

Bottom line is that I felt that the potential upside outweighed the inherent risk here. Turns out my intuition was spot on, and it appears that he is more than willing to offer a refund. However, I am also not naïve and remain cautiously hopeful that he will issue a refund upon receipt of the cards. If not, I will escalate the case with eBay.

I want to thank everyone for their input on this. It just confirms what I suspected all along.

Sorry to hear. I'm sure you will get refunded no problem. Seller is a POS IMO.

Edit: looks like he sold a few others. I would neg his account so hopefully they see he's selling fakes.

Good call. I was in the wrong also. It's innocent to sell a unmarked counterfeit for a few bucks as a reprint but this is what always happens after.

I suppose the primary question now is one of shipping options. Should I send this via certified mail? I want to be able to prove that he has received the cards I've returned. Or would signature confirmation be the best route? Or maybe some other option?

If you open a case the seller should provide you with a shipping label. If he does not you can escalate it and eBay will.

Agreed on what happens after, and as Stewie mentioned these are really good fakes. I just completed that set within the past two years and initially thought they were good until I pulled out one of mine to compare. I would never have touched an ungraded #350 Mantle or raw Yaz rookie without some PD, but probably wouldn't have thought twice about those cards. Thankfully, I was only pursuing a mid-grade set so wasn't the target audience for most of the scams.

Sorry this happened but rest assured you will have no problem getting your money back. Just make sure you get a tracking number. Thats really you you need. Even if the seller declined to accept the items, as long as it was showed it was sent and tried to be delivered, you will get your refund. Guaranteed. I also agree that the seller is a POS and you should ding him to warn others. Make sure you get your money back first because that's whats important right now.

Unfortunately, once a SNAD is opened (perhaps only once it's closed) I don't believe you can leave feedback. You have to leave negative feedback first and hope it sticks after the SNAD resolution. With a feedback of only 10, it will be obvious to the seller either way and they can have it removed if the case is resolved.
