I'm not saying that I haven't seen better centered 10's, but do you really think that card does not measure 55/45 or better and if all other things are perfect, it can be off 60/40 and still qualify. So, if there aren't any other defects noticeable, I can see this card getting a 10. Of course, I think it would have looked properly graded in a 9 as well. Of always wondered about the harsh grading standards of board members.

To reiterate, I am not saying the card is perfectly centered, but it seems to fall within the guidelines that PSA has set for "10" centering.

While it may technically qualify as a 10, it's totally lacking in the eye appeal department. I'd rather own a card that looks like a 10 rather than one that slides in technically as a 10.

  • With the choices limited to 6 - or fewer - it's unlikely the deep pocketed bidders will consider the centering issue, as long as the flip is correct.

Presumably, the next PSA 10 Young to hit the market could present better and bring a much higher hammer price. Would be interesting to see if that happens soon.

    PSA 8 current bid $2.25

    PSA 10 current bid $17,300

The market likes cards that are graded gem mint by PSA. It is what it is.

Many people on here have harsh grading standards when it comes to other people's cards. But when a PSA grader is critical of their card, they scream grader of death

Technically, the centering might still qualify for a 10. The point I was making was; on the thread where the collector is buying tons of unopened hockey trying to put together a set of all 10's, there are some really perfect looking cards and they are all coming back 9's. It only takes a quick glance at the Young to see that card is NOT gem mint, even if it may meet the centering standards.

    Great news for the submitter!

It is odd to drop a huge bomb and not respond for 17 days. I was so excited to see this thread and now the air has been let out.

Are we now micro trimming cards to get them into 10 slabs??? You aren't Jason Ewert are you? image

Congrats on the 10 and I am just busting your balls since the other 2 Hendersons came back evidence of trimming.

Hmm, if EOT, wonder if they were BGS 9.5 crackouts that may or may not have been sheet cuts?

Regardless, CONGRATULATIONS on the huge score!

I'm betting on 4SC or 9999rbush to land that one.

    Thanks,

Sounds very Riskey to me to crack out a gem BGS or SGC card to submit to PSA.

    Never said they were gem.
  • so they're 9's in 10 holders....now it makes sense

10s in 9 holders but your negativity is appreciated. Now the Young may have been a 9 that somehow ended up in a 10 holder.
