Token Not Suitable for Slabbing

Bought a token from a seller on ebay that cam back after 2 months at the service in Sarasota as "not suitable" ( fake )

Too late for feedback. What do you do?

He's got a few of them.

Edited to show seller on ebay in anticipation of being wrong about who it may be.

Comments

  • Show him the information, ask to be made whole, buy something else you like from the seller if made whole. If you left feedback of any kind you could append with new comments.

Have you tried to contact the seller so that you can return it and get a refund at least.
I highly doubt he would compensate you for the fees in Sarasota and extra shipping
you decided to take on but it would not hurt to ask. Would it be considered
mail fraud if a person says they are shipping you something genuine and then you find
out that it is counterfeit? Credit card protection/PayPal protection? Police report?

    Geez, good luck!

  • What for of payment did you use?
  • Or buy something very cheap from him so you can leave negative feedback.

I'm assuming it's ebay as there is a way to leave feedback. Call ebay and let them know what happened
and I'm pretty sure you will be made whole on the purchase price. You have the documentation and that's
all that is needed. There is no time limit for a return due to it being a fake.
    good luck,

Please send me the name of the seller in a PM so I can make note of it.

I buy a lot of exonumia (tokens, medals, etc) and I'd really appreciate your note.

  • Are you sure it's fake? And not merely an ineligible type?

NGC will state "not suitable" if it has major environmental damage or is beastly in some other fashion... Not everything goes into their details grade holders.

  • I would make a phone call to the seller, or email, or write a letter, and not post it publicly. If I were the seller I would respond and if "not suitable" really means fake I'd refund the money. Some sellers simply ignore their customers but that would be bad business.

Did NGC equate "not suitable" with "fake" in simple terms ? I would get a clarification from NGC before making a case against the seller of passing a counterfeit or imitation. I certainly wouldn't make another purchase from that seller just to gain an opportunity to leave a negative FB, as suggested by some juveniles here. image
NGC has diminished the scope of what they will holder in tokens over the course of the past few years, so it is entirely possible that they just declined to take the liability for attributing something that they don't have the resources to accurately designate.

If NGC thought the coin was fake it would be returned with a label that stated questionable authenticity! This sounds like a coin they do not want in their holder.

They've gotten a bit picky in the last 2 years what they want in their holder...

Having spoken to a couple other collectors some corroded R8 to R10 CWT's had to go to PCGS for details grade as NGC wouldn't slab them.

One was actually cracked out of a NCS slab... Still no dice.

So there could be numerous reasons but "Not Suitable" doesn't instantly mean it's fake.

Perhaps a call to ATS would straighten it out? What token is it?

For Rulau PA-PH-234 you should try our host. Here's one from the Cardinal Collection. Is this what your token looks like?

BTW, the Cardinal Libertas Americana token collection looks incredible! I've always wanted to build a collection like this so it's great to see one assembled!

I may have made a mistake here and jumped the gun. My apologies for any inference. image

What do you do when a submission comes back after 2 months as such?

"What do you do when a submission comes back after 2 months as such? "

At least call NGC and ask to speak to Scott Schecter, with an expectation of receiving the courtesy of a clarification. And if there is no recourse there, then send it to PCGS.
Could you please post images here for a general evaluation ?
