One would think sending a PM to Bob informing him that his 'card' was offensive to some and asking him to remove the image would have done the trick. Bob has done a LOT of good for the hobby.
I agree with Dennis. Also agree with Mike in hoping it's only a temporary ban. Edit to add: I don't think Bob meant anything bad by the card, but it DEFINITELY did NOT belong here.
Hopefully it's just a temporary ban and he just needs to sit in the corner for awhile. I think after the first couple of responses that came in, Bob should of removed the scanned pic and deleted the entire thread. While I believe the thread and custom card was made or intended to be humorous; it was simply distasteful and I agree with the mods.
As someone who has served in the military, I found it in bad taste but he was aware of the repercussions, especially after the comments came in. Like someone said, hopefully its a little time out and then he will be back.
Bob may be a better man than I could ever hope to be, but that was shockingly poor judgment. Satirical or not, that acronym evokes a broad range of emotions -- many of which should never be experienced on these boards.
When I saw 'behead' translated into Arabic on the back of that piece of cardboard, I didn't know what to do first -- put my fist through a wall or vomit.
Bob, who is the former editor of the Standard Guide to Baseball Cards, creates cards that never were- players that didn't make sets, updates to old sets, etc. Bob is a purest and the cards he creates are in the exact format of the originals. He updated the set Flags of the World with a card for ISIS, the Islamic State Calphilate that currently occupies parts of Iraq and Syria. ISIS is known for being a brutal, fundamentalist regime and the card highlighted that, much the way the Horrors of War set depicted atrocities by the Japanese. The post was pulled and Bob was banned.

Just wanted to mention that Bob has been reinstated here.
Moving forward, I look forward to more of Bob's creations of "cards that never were."
I've seen others do this kind of work - but IMO, Bob's work has been just about the most professional and creative around.
Welcome back Bob - you're in good company in the Bams'R'Us Club. >>

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I appreciate the sincerity of sentiments expressed . . . both the "good riddance" and the "welcome back."
I don't apologize for creating my Flags of the World Isis card; I sincerely thought that the members of this forum would understand its place in the historic context of the hobby's past.
Posting the card without the "back story" that appeared on my blog seems to have been a mistake on my part. If you want to see the entire package, refer to my blog posting of Aug. 25 blog link and be sure to read the comments section at the bottom.
My thanks to Jackie for the productive conversation and the reinstatement of my forum privileges.
I won't stop expressing myself via my custom cards, but I'll limit my sharing of those that some may find offensive to my own blog.
If you're the politically correct type who goes out of their way to be outraged, you might want to avoid my blog for a couple of weeks because I have another Flags of the World update nearing completion.
Glad to see you are back Bob. Your Blog has always been fun to read and a place to learn a lot about our hobby.
STAY HEALTHY!

Al, I'm afraid I would no longer fit in as editor of SCD. As Matt says, I am a hobby dinosaur and becoming increasingly curmudgeonly.
Under SCD's current ownership, the editor is required to not only edit the bi-weekly, but also to maintain the Standard Catalog of Vintage Cards and lord knows what else . . . shovel the snow, make the coffee, etc. With so little editorial space available in each issue of SCD, I would be loath to provide coverage to shiny cards or advertiser puff pieces.
Tom Bartsch does a great job considering the unwillingness of the corporate massas to provide resources.
I'll continue to enjoy retirement and use my blog as an outlet for my hobby blather.
I wrote the last comment on your blog. I think it was actually a very good representation of the "spirit" of those types of sets. If it was watered down to be palatable, it would seem that would be even more offensive. In my opinion, it was very well done for what it was trying to accomplish.

I collect PSA cards of the following: Billy Ripken Cal Ripken, Jr. 1980-2002 Cal Ripken, Sr. Hall of Fame Rookies
I still have and appreaciate the custom cards I have got from Bob a long time ago and remain one of his biggest fans.
Glad you were reinstated here and although I didnt see your work posted here that offended some people I will certainly check out your blog and applaude you again for your outstanding work.
Keep up the carboard creations Bob and welcome back
People are too sensitive and PC these days. Curt Schilling got suspended for the rest of the baseball season by ESPN because he compared islamic extremists to nazis. You can't even insult terrorists anymore!

<< <i>I've got to agree with the Admin on this one. >>
Hiya Dennis
I can understand your point since Bob didn't write anything to go with it and assumed people would get it.
Topps has a long and illustrious history (much like Mad Magazine) of producing satire. Wacky Plaks and Packages, Garbage Pail Kids etc.
That was surely his intent and it didn't resonate in that vain.
I guess many, if they complained, had their Irony Radars down that day?
I will not challenge the Mods on this - there's all kinds of liability that they may be addressing on this one.
What I would like to see the possibility of being addressed? A "Time Out" for Bob and a happy return.
I hope others see it this way?

<< <i>Was it a mockup card of flags of the world that appeared here a few days ago? >>
That was it Daniel.
I have to emphasize, it was meant to be satire and not to anger or insult anyone. That's just not Bob.

left to go out for the evening and while words like isis, confederacy and nazi's were brought up, it wasn't a heated thread...
and did not see any disparaging remarks prior. it actually was quite civilized, imo...
again things coulda easily changed, but did not see it if they did...
