What to use for a coin mat?

I'm have trouble finding what to use for a coin mat. I've seen dealers use velvet cloths, spongy mats and simple rag cloths. I'm looking for something for both raw coins and slabs.

What do you recommend and where did you get it?

Thanks,
Cameron

My wife picked up some red velvet material years ago and sewed in some light wood and cotton I believe. It worked for many years. Later on I picked up a 12" felt lined wooden tray with 1" sides. At times I'd use a cotton T-shirt at home if nothing else was close by.

What you see dealer use at shows for raw coins are velvet jewelers trays for displaying or showing jewelry.

I've used this type of tray because I can stack them. Enough room to use with raw coins or slabs. (There are probably other suppliers as well).

Then I put a pad in it. (I prefer black).

Of course, there are other sizes of trays and pads to choose from.

    I hope that helps.

They work great. I have a mouse pad designed for computer games that is made of nice material and is quite large.

Jeweler's velvet tray. See if a local jeweler can get you one.

A small hand towel folded over works just fine for me and you can toss it in the laundry when it gets dirty.
