When you sell coins to a forum member in person

Is the transaction completed in cash or check? Forgive me, I have simply never done this before and I am planning on selling some of my coins.

I suppose it would depend on the member and/or value of collection being sold.
It shouldn't be a hassle nor an insult to the buyer if you requested cash instead of a check for payment.

If I'm meeting someone I don't know it's cash as otherwise a check is fine.

Ok, I am trying to sell a collection worth roughly 4-6 thousand dollars...I have never met any forum member in person (at least as far as I know)...I will request cash for my coins when I sell them. If anyone is in the md/va/dc area, I am willing to meet you in Arlington va where I live to sell my coins.

CASH! What do you know about him/her other than that they signed up for the forum?

Payment method should be whatever the seller prefers.

291fifth---I would take your check without hesitation. Same with many of the forum members here.

I would never meet a stranger I met on the Internet to buy or sell coins - with one exception.

That would be if I was selling, then I would meet them at my bank where I have my safe deposit box.
It would be a cash transaction in the room they bank supplies for SDB users.

My bank has a metal detecting building entry system and plenty of video cameras.

But the member asking the question is relatively new and doesn't have the forum experience that you or I have. Better safe than sorry.

Agree. They need to be part of the "Circle of Trust" here before I would take their check.image

Cash - Numismatics is cash and carry. Face to face, I sell coins for cash and pay for coins with cash.

If you buying plan to show up with the cash necessary for the transaction, if selling tell them you expect payment in cash. At shows I take cash or acceptable trade material at my buying price (it may be CDN, CCDN, BV, pct of CV, etc). If they have money they can find an ATM.

I have dealt with people in their homes both buying and selling. Most were retail clients I had done business with before. Use caution in meeting strangers. Cash is king in any numismatic transaction.

I use Starbucks as an office to meet with clients.

My clients love my free office space as it lowers overhead, thus prices.

Cash or meet at buyer's bank and get cashier's check drawn on his account payable to seller.

I wouldn't take anyone's personal check and wouldn't expect them to take mine.

Sometimes I don't know they're forum members, but I try to have as much fun in person as I do here.
