I have looked at many hundreds if not thousands of 1981 Proof Sets looking for Type 2's. I am starting to think that the Type 2 m/m is actually an inverted m/m of the Type 1 Variety. Has anyone else ever considered this or made the same observation?? I know pictures would help but I don't have the ability to take high resolution macro pictures.

Given the quite apparent differences in serifs and with most Type-2's having a very clearly larger inside center loops, I can't say I've ever thought of them this way.
Do you have some examples that could actually be different than the traditional Type-1/Type-2?

I have often wondered the same thing, the style looks more like a modified invert
about a year ago I happened to look at a clear Type 1 coin upside down and noticed that it looked like a Type 2, that where the question comes from.
No pics to show, but if you find some, it'll clearly show it.
