I bought it in a 3rd world holder because the luster is blazing. I think it is low also but oh well. I really like the coin.

Since you asked, I included this as my 8th w/Platinum membership grading.
I was hoping for I higher grade, but the coin was a gift from my father and he paid $50,
so I won't complain.
This was submitted 3/15/10 (along with some 2008 W modern crap, thanks to this board!).

That is, to me, like saying the vast, vast majority of Mint State coins are dogs and I just don't agree. There are many MS60 coins out there that are most attractive. Many have toning or scream original - just some ticks and hits and such - a natural event in the life of a coin made to be used. Just my .02.

From the photos it looks like it could pass for at least a 64 pretty easy. Geez.

Rule of thumb for grading all coins. The worst side of the coin rules. The reverse of a Morgan dollar is irrelevant to grading upwards. There is no compensatory value. Someone will find an example that shows my 100% statement to be only 99% valid. Prozac and Zoloft, along with several other medications, have had profound effects in some severe cases of OCD. While it will be a surprise to many, OCD coin people DO exist. . .
On the other hand, many 67 Morgans have 65++ reverses and stiil get the grade
I purchased this coin in 2007. While certified as NGC MS-60, IMO it has the eye appeal of an MS-62PL, and I really like its overall appearance.
Although it's not designated as PL, it probably should be. It's got full mint luster, and the additional PL pop really sets it off from an eye appeal perspective. I rarely find either an MS-60 or 61 coin that has enough eye appeal to suit my particular taste. This is one of those scarce exceptions to that general rule.

Earlier this year, I submitted two NGC Fatty 60s to PCGS, and they both came back 61. 60 is rarely used in this day and age.

Here are a couple that I don't remember and no longer own since probably 1990's or earlier. Must have thought them better than 60 otherwise would have sold with the certificates.

I don't know the answer as I probably did not get it direct unless at a coin show, I don't remember. That name is also a common one. In a recent dealer directory listing by CDN there are several American Coin related names including an exact AMERICAN COIN CO in Utah. May have been a few different of the identical name come and gone over the years.
