I got this today from Gary Adkins Associates.


First shipping was free, and he shipped it Priority Mail Express.
Then there was a bag of Werther's Original candies in the package with a handwritten note.
And the PCGS slab came inside an Intercept Shield. A great dealer image
It has a light golden/magenta tone.

What is the grade and for bonus points, the Overton number?

maibockaddict - hit the nail on the head and would have won all the candy, but I already ate it
CAC decided to hide it, but it is a 110a

Yes an O-110. Notorious for a weak strike. It probably has XF40 wear, and seems to have XF40 luster, but the strike being what it is I would say it got a VF30 or VF35 depending on the mood of the graders. But if they are in a great mood, a 40 may be possible. Not a great type coin because of the details unless you are collecting low end VF coins. Love the look!

    No clue about Overton. I find those tough to grade too, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? I'll go XF40 in respect of the luster and write off missing detail as strike more than wear.

    That coin has awesome original-looking surfaces. I like it very much.

    I'd guess VF30 by wear, but that weak strike would be grade limiting, so VF20 shot 25 would be my estimate.

    It looks like a strong 25. My guess for grade on the holder is VF30 and maybe even 35 if they were generous.

    Exactly what Baley said....with maybe an upward bump to 35 depending on how flashy that lurking luster is image

    I recall reading in Overton about this die marriage, or perhaps there are a couple with a very weakly struck center like that ?

    I think that it is worth VF-25 money. These things are hard to grade, and some parts of it look like an EF, but given the strike issues, the market grade is VF.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible.     I have a PCGS VF-25 O.102 with more detail on both sides than the OP coin. VF-20.

    I'm trying to remember if this is O-110, I do not have the picture file named with variety, but saw that I posted it years ago probably before I had Overton

    ok, I see that it is, an earlier die state than your coin, but with more wear. The advancing cracks in your die state probably made the strike more uneven, however I'm a little concerned about the stars near the eagle's beak on your piece, there appears to be a concentration of marks that could be a separate issue from incomplete strike. A closeup could reveal some minor damage that had been lightly repaired?

    Anyway, I see that the grade posted as VF35 and that it's attributed, which means the graders took the variety into account in the grading, good job PCGS!

    There are quite a few draped bust halves in older holders and unattributed, the weak or uneven strikes maybe taken for wear or damage, if resubmitted for attribution could very well upgrade.
