Have the BST rules been nullified by the Mods?

There is, or was, a rule about 'bumping' a BST thread to the top. If the BST rules are still in force, maybe it's time to 'stick' them to the top again.
At times the US Coins BST forum can move quickly. The first page, especially the 'territory' at top, is valued by sellers, (hence the "one ttt per day' rule.)
Lately, many people are bumping threads with simple comments, "Nice coin", etc, which drives that thread to the top. It can be annoying, during busy times, to see how quickly a seller's thread moves off the first page, due in part to comments, (and occasionally new or inexperienced sellers who post multiple threads.)
If a seller's thread is bumped by a comment, should they then NOT bump it themselves? I would hesitate to do so, (with rare exception,) based on my idea of fairness to the other sellers.
How are other sellers to know that the comment was simply a random comment? Having a friend "randomly comment" would be a great way to bump your thread 2 or 3 times a day, no?
If the BST rules are not posted where they can be seen by users, and respected/enforced, that forum may soon become like a roller derby, with users elbowing their way to the top, by various means.
If the rules no longer exist, we need to know. If they are still in force, they need to be visible.

Edited to add: I expect most users of the BST believe that for their post to be effective, it needs to remain on page one for a reasonable time frame. I have had my "customize" setting at 50 threads per page per category for as long as I have been a member here, which I still believe is adequate as far as judging when one of my own threads is due for a self-bump. If someone has their setting at a lesser thread count per page, I can understand how they might feel "crowded" out quickly. The maximum number of threads per page that can be selected is 100, which might be a more appropriate consideration now given the gradual rise in active members over the course of the decade or so that I've been around. That setting still would require a moderate amount of scrolling to see the entire page (1) relative to what was stated above about effective placement in the queue.

Sometimes several, actually, and what I try and do in these cases (to respect my fellow BSTer's) is to refrain from bumping the thread myself on that day.
I won't go so far as to say that the practice should be discouraged. One good reason I can think of for that is that often when you see a thread that's been bumped
multiple times by the admiring masses, there really is something special being offered, and it's worth taking a look !
Let's hope that the lack of moderation there doesn't get too messy, though.
My 2 cents is that it is actually working just fine, and doesn't need much tweeking at this time
So now we want to stop people from commenting on a thread on a forum? I can't imagine you are getting a whole lot of business on that forum, but if you are, a couple comments on the other threads are not going to destroy you.

Dats it in a nutshell.
Have a Great Day!

If the OP bumps it more than once per day, they suck and they are in the wrong, and should be called out on it (obvious exceptions are when one should take into account timezones, etc, and it is pretty close to 24 hours, or a new days anyway...no need to get anal on it).
If someone else bumps it, even for a nice coin comment, I am ok with that. If someone excessively does it, I will remember their name and NOT deal with them.
Simple to me.....if one doesn't want to play well with the majority, I have no reason/need to buy/sell to/from them. In the end, they are doing themselves a disservice.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The other BST's seem to work fine , its just the US BST that seems to have issues. If it gets too bad then PCGS could shut down for a short time say a year or two.

A very reasoned approach there, Bochiman.
For me though, (as a seller of 'common junk Lincolns', you understand,) ...I have to take the approach that everyone's money is as green as the next person's. >>
I just don't find the current actions to be whining offenses.....not worthy of a thread or prolonged whining about it.
I've sold a few things there, put a few things up that didn't sell, and experienced similar to what you are talking about. It is what it is, and I have to decide my actions based on it....but it was never worth caring about more than maybe going back and bumping my thread, within forum guidelines.
Not trying to argue, nor demean you, since this obviously is something keeping you up late and potentially causing a lot of stress and ulcers, but to me, there are a lot more important things.
We all have triggers though. Mine are people that seem to always take everything as a joke and bring no substance in, and those that think OT is ok all the time. I like to come to the boards to learn, to see, to enjoy the coins (and people). Not to worry about bumped threads, threads off the first page, or to be in an OT kingdom (there are other forums for that).

All other rules were made to be challenged, but there is no changing the fact that death is imminent.

<< <i>If a person is looking for coins on the BST, seriously looking wouldn't they go past the first page if they are set to a low post count display? I set mine to 100 just for scrolling to be faster. If your title describes what you are selling then the search feature works very well also for finding what you are looking for regardless of what place the posting is at. Some may also make comments about a coin on the BST as from what I have been told it is a no no to post a coin you are selling on this board no matter how beautiful, interesting or rare, is that correct? >>
Posting about them here is considered 'spamming', yes. Not a good thing at all.
I tend to only look at the first two pages of BST, (at 50 threads per,) and am generally only looking to see what's selling, and at what prices. I don't use iot to buy since I have a policy of never paying retail prices, and most listings are offered well-above the levels I'm accustomed to paying.
Your points are well taken... I hadn't thought of the 'search' feature being used to find coins, and I suppose maybe many folks scroll down thru several pages, as they peruse the marketplace.
I've noted a few angry comments within replies directed to those who post multiple BST threads in one day, and in most cases it appears the 'offender' simply did not know the rules.
I feel those rules ought to be put back 'up top', as I'm sure a few new sellers have had their ego bruised by the scathing remarks used to "explain" to them that they have transgressed. >>
The only things on the BST that aren't over priced are either obscure or SOLD !!!!!
if it costs more than it would on eBay and the seller wants paypal gift only then it doesn't deserve to be on page 1 anyway.
Two other points the rules can't be stickied to the top because the forum is imploding , and search doesn't always work so maybe people don't search as much as they normally would. I have tried to search for threads I started myself and come up empty at least half the time and I even know the title and roughly the time in most cases
Although this is an old thread. I thought that the information in it was quite interesting.
Courtesy and discretion keep things moving along nicely and someone will always be nagging.

courtesy dictates that the only comment that should be publicly added to a BST thread is one on the reliability of the seller so that it can serve as feedback to others. Everything else should be directed to the original poster via PM.
