Probably just to call attention to the USPS playing fast and loose with scans. Its happened to me as well with some ebay packages recently. One item I bought a week ago bounced all over New England while it was in transit and then today it was delivered to me I rechecked the tracking and all the in between scans were expunged , whooshhhhh right down the old memory hole. >>
I had one of those this past 2 weeks except they didn't edit out the wrong locations.
Just received it yesterday after a week with no scans followed by a week of scans in 3 wrong cities. The extra fun part was the sender did not insure it.
The highlight included a 15 minutes between departure and arrival scans for a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from parking lot to parking lot. That one puzzled everyone. Then there was the arrival scan in a town an hour from me on Friday but I'm guessing it never really arrived there as the PO could not find it. Never fear, next scan was "available for pickup" at my local po. After all the wrong turns, I was relieved only upon actually having it in my hands on Friday at the PO.
the mixups and delay would bother me less if they wouldn't change the scans and my new local hub didn't make a habit of departure scanning but it seems the hour drive takes 2 days.... meaning I think the hub is scanning it departed but not putting it on a truck for a day or two. It happens regularly enough now that I'm not surprised by it any longer. (as can be evidenced on this forum by recent lack of posts about usps delays... I didn't even post about this mystery tour until someone else brought up their own... and it was the same hub which sent it on its mystery tour)
MsM - rest assured I wasn't badgering you earlier about the basis for your complaint. You can bet I'm on your side considering the circumstances you've described. I look at it the same way as some others here, in that you've paid for a service you didn't receive. Our host should be all too accommodating in helping you get compensated by the USPS. Some here seem to forget that EVERY submission order to PCGS has been subject to an $8.00 "handling fee" for several years now (as of 1/1/15 it has been raised 20% to $10.00). If you don't believe this fee is a form of a self insurance fund for instances where PCGS has to go beyond the status quo in their shipping/receiving department, then I would ask any non-believers what they think that money is allocated for.
actually, you point out something that might make the idea impractical.
$8 or $10 might be for shipping and it might be for a lot of other things.
Then the fees they receive back won't be the full fee we pay. (e.g. insurance)
And there will be complainers that want 100% of what pcgs gets back. I think at least that and possible other money outlays and complaints the idea impractical, unless we take a fixed split on the money in the contract to pay for a low wage worker to chase down these fee refunds.
then there is the CFRO point about karma. I don't think it is karma as much as annoying the PO when you might have a larger complaint needing fixing, such as changing a sorting location due to PO thefts. I'd call what might happen a direct retribution (simply canning the employee but not making other adjustments) instead of karmic retribution.
OTOH, as I once pointed out to a guy I knew whose new mail carrier was continually mixing up neighbors' mail. If at some point something bad happens, but nothing is said, how does the PO do QC on it? But for the EM case, they know by scans..... unless they don't! Which kind of ticks me off they did that because of ramifications for future deliveries. Sure, they wouldn't do it all the time, but they'd certainly feel comfortable showing up as much as 6 hours late again, and I'm usually going out during those hours. It kind of anchored me there that once and I'd think in the future, too.
Ah, but now? I do use a PO Box. "Available for Pickup." That's better. And it can be late. It could have been late before. But the time change... And the anchor... and what good is the ph# on the package if they don't use it? "We're understaffed. everyone is either on a register or out on a route. We can only get it to you after a route is done at 5-5:30. But I guess that is unrealistic too. Perhaps those ph#s are only good for undeliverable addresse....
It is really about contracts, accountability and businesses like usps being responsible. Karma? Actually the karma goes with conscience and having peace of mind which is on the side of those who hold irresponsible interests accountable. There is something wrong with postal employees who look angry, perturbed or an unhappy smile when you make a claim based on their delivery failure. Especially when these are the same people as federal employees who have reported fellow citizens for "suspicious" activity where they would get $$$ if you get nailed for something. It's a two way street and if customers are civil, frank and do their part by properly packaging their parcels why shouldn't the usps employees do their part?
I am amazed the docile reaction some dealers ,posters have here , after someone pays for a service and does not get the service that was paid for...in effect saying it only money .or bad karma .... Anyone please PM if you are willing to walk your talk and just giveaway $ 40 The Postal service is just another business , not outside being criticized for poor performance
At $40 a package for ExpressMail .. how many dealers, posters would forget, forgive collecting 40 dollars off any multiple number of transactions?? Hardly next to none
The cost to PCGS to present a claim at their branch for failure to perform on an Express service delivery is of very little consequence. The shipping/receiving department by necessity is at that
branch every day to pick up new arrivals, including Registered service which requires the PCGS employee to sign for these with a clerk.
Presenting the proper documentation of the lack of performance is a cut and dried process which should take no more than 30 seconds during the course of signing for Registered articles.
When you take an Express Mail package into the Post Office to mail the guaranteed time is not always next day by 12:00pm. They punch the zips into the system at the time of mailing and a guaranteed time pops out, and it could be anywhere from next day by noon to the second business day. They don't change the price of Express Mail service if your package guaranty time goes to the second day. If you go to usps.com and run the calculate a price for Express Mail using PCGS's zip and your zip you can see what kind of guaranty might be applying to your shipments from PCGS. For example on a package shipped after 3pm going from PCGS 92658 to 60610 Chicago they call it Priority Mail Express 1-Day service and the guaranty is for next day by 3pm. If you check the same thing from 92658 to 70372 Louisiana they change the name to Priority Mail Express 2-Day service and change guaranty time to second day at 3:00pm.
