What s the PCGS Profile Collection?

GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,785 ✭✭✭✭✭
I saw a 2013-D 5 Star General Half Dollar labeled as "Profile Collection"

I googled it and didn't find anything on it. Anyone know exactly what it means? What other coins are in "The Profile Collection"?

Sounds like the name Arnold gave his set.

I believe any person can name their collection and have PCGS put that name on the label.

My first thought was that is was a pedigree to someone's set but it has a different coin number that other halfs that same date and a POP of 189 pcs between MS69 & MS70 so I don't think it is a Pedigree, must be just a special label of some kind?

Looks like a Mint offering in 2013.
    Dollar, half, medal, etc...

WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will release the 2013 5-Star Generals Profile Collection (product code 5G8) on August 5 at noon (ET).  The set contains one uncirculated silver dollar coin and one clad half-dollar coin from the 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Program and a bronze replica of the 1962 General Douglas MacArthur Congressional Gold Medal.  The coins and medal are mounted in easel-like packaging suitable for display that includes informative profile cards for each general with photos, historic military information, and fun facts.  A Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the Acting Director of the United States Mint, is included.

The 2013 5-Star Generals Profile Collection is priced at $74.95, and production is limited to 50,000 units.  There is no household order limit for this product.  Orders will be accepted at the bureau's online catalog, http://www.usmint.gov/catalog, and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).  Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468). Shipping is scheduled to begin in early September.

PCGS calls a collection complete when all coins available are in the set. There are coins in my collection that are not available but listed in the set and yet they call it complete even tho there are about 10 or 11 coins not in the set. I don't know why they put the coins in that are unique or impossible to get as there is only one available anywhere and not in anybody's set. Roosevelt dimes 1946 to present with all variety's.

I believe this coin sold under market tonight as the "regular" coin usually fetches $500++. The Heritage coin is from the limited mintage sub 11,000 special mint offering. I have one on ebay if you want to read a little more about the special product. Wondercoin.

Yes, I was a bidder on the MS70 Half and was high bidder until the live auction where it sold for about 2x my bid.

Update, it was only 1.5x my MAX bid.

Grandam. The last MS70 half just went best offer $1,100 on ebay. The three before those were each $500+ best I can see. Hence, my comment about the "premium label" coin going cheap.

As always, just my two cents. Wondercoin.
