Tips needed on problem $1 golds

DennisHDennisH Posts: 14,042 ✭✭✭✭✭
Despite many years in coin collecting, I have zero experience in this area.

What's involved are a few circulated Type I and Type III $1 gold pieces (common dates) that a non-collector relative asked me to help her with.
Problems include bent, loop attached, and pin clasp mount (?)
How do even begin to value these things?
Is the B-S-T a good place for them?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice/suggestions.
When in doubt, don't.

Common date pieces providing they ate genuine are worth a bit more than melt but nowhere near problem free coins. Rate dates...30% price guides? Overall dogs with few buyers. Sorry

Get what you can and don't look back.

This is not the time to be holding problem coins.

Typically they will bring anywhere from about 75-90 bucks each on ebay from my experience

I would research them on auctions though search parameters can be challenging. "G$1 details". HA or Coin facts?

Unless it's a rare date they are worth a very small premium over melt. It doesn't hurt to try for a best offer on the BST since it's free. As far as what they bring on eBay, be sure to factor in the eBay fees, the Paypal fees, the cost of shipping, and the general hassle of selling it on eBay.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

look at closed sold sales on ebay and list them on the BST at a similar price point.

they will fetch a tad over melt and you wont have the ebay fees on the BST.

decent images and description they will move fast at a rational price.
