Whats going on with the reverse?

Any idea what that is on the reverse? The seller thinks its possibly from a pin medal. Can this be removed?

I'm not sure, but it looks like it was soldered along the edge, maybe to a pinback or other piece of jewelry.
If it is solder, you could get most of it off, but it would be difficult to get it all off AND there are probably
scratches or scrapes made to allow the solder to get a better "hold".

I'm not sure about this, so please ask others with more expertise.

Yes, it was mounted as a brooch at one time. The pin portion has since been removed. The coin is permanently damaged exactly as dcamp78 described.

Yep, it's a typical brooch mount-mark. Permanent and irreparable, as indicated. In theory, if it were just soldered on with a base-metal solder, you could remove it with acid or even re-heat it to melt the solder off again. In practice, jewellers typically used silver solder which would require heat not much lower than the heat required to melt the coin itself. Furthermore, jewellers usually "rough up" the surface prior to applying the solder, to make sure the solder sticks properly. Finally, on this particular coin, someone seems to have filed it down to try to flatten the bump as much as possible, which has damaged the fields surrounding it.
