"... and has been verified by numerous experts, including previous grader for the certification company located in Newport Beach Ca."

Really? The CCs look very very wrong IMO LINK.

And seeing a coin like this is a compelling reason for the existence of TPG.

  • "Double your money back guarantee"? That would give some incentives for raw coin sales to be honest. But no guarantee on grade. And there's the rub with all the potential pitfalls, no one pays for grading fees, etc..

I believe it to be real, but he has already sold it once recently, only to re-list it the next day. I have followed other coins listed by this seller in the past and have seen similar behavior (smelling of shilling). He has also purchased a slabbed problem coin of mine, cracked it out and sold it as problem free.

My concern on this one is not that it has been cleaned, but rather I don't like the area to the right of Liberty's head. The star looks "off" - the top and left points look "fat" compared to the others. It could have been expertly holed and plugged. The reverse shows no signs of plugging, but without seeing the coin in hand, I'm reluctant to bid.

No one, NO ONE, is going to buy a coin that expensive in a flip. Take TWO zeros off and someone might (different coin obviously) buy a coin in a flip like that.

I think it is probably genuine, but the probability that it has been messed with (repaired, polished, whizzed, rims filed etc etc) is so high that I wouldn't go near it in its little cellophane pup tent.

Selling NO RESERVE a KEY and extremely rare 1871-CC Seated Liberty Dollar.
Guaranteed authentic [lifetime guarantee] it is in our opinion a mid AU example.
This coin comes from an old collection and has not been stored for over 45 years.
Current estimates indicate less than 500 examples known to still exist.....Its that rare.
Nice strike and definition with hints original toning. An old light cleaning with good eye appeal and virtually perfect rims.

"Has not been stored for over 45 years"? Huh?
<500 examples known to exist is not all that "rare" in the seated coin community.

Seated are not my series....just saying.

But, dentils above her head are mis-formed. I'd sure like to see that in hand out of the 2x2
and be able to weigh and measure. Does not look like it should to my eyes.

Coin looks OK to me from the pics. He says it's been cleaned, which it does look that way.

I like how he circumvented E-Bay's policy about not putting pricing in auctions on raw coinsimage

Tough coin. Been looking for a problem free, gradable example for a customer for a while

    From the listing:

Q: a couple of questions: 1) Did you re-list this coin from last week? Why is it re-listed? 2) If it's authentic, why haven't you had this certified? Thanks! Dec-27-14
A: Hello: The coin was re-listed because the winning bidder did not pay for the coin. If you win the coin, you are welcome to send the coin to ANY third-party grading service. The coin is part of an estate sale and not ours to send in for certification. We have a LIFETIME guarantee for authenticity. As stated in the auction,in our opinion the coin has been cleaned. Best of luck to you.

I am very intrigued by what appears to be a raised metal 'bubble' between the E and S in STATES.
    When in doubt, don't.

For anyone who thinks the coin is real, please compare the mint-mark with this one:

I believe the coin is genuine. But at one point it was heavily toned, to the point where the surface was etched in some areas, and then cleaned.
The raised bubble between the E and S of STATES is an indication that the coin may have been very hot at one time (perhaps blackened in a fire).

I still think it's real. Here's the reverse of my 71-CC (NGC F Details, Cleaned). Looks the same as his...

I think the coin is genuine but has been repaired at 12:00 area on obverse. Also, a strange way to take pictures, out of the 2x2 and turning only the coin, not the 2x2, imo.
