Since there has been a lot of talk about the PL version of the 2014 S coin, will pure satin finish get a special label? I have 4 sets (I know, not a lot), but in each set, every "S" mint coin has a significantly different look to it.
On seems very satiny, also seems to have lesser lines than the other two satinish set coins.
It would be interesting if there were normal set coins, PL coins and Satin coins.
Also, which seems to be the rarest? The true PL or clean Satin coins?

I'm a Kennedy Collector and I just don't really care for these micro-attributions which amount to nothing more than a high dollar sales tool.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Returned a NGC DPL today. Obverse is more mirrored than mine but not the reverse. I do see the possibility of a true DMPL. Hopefully the buyer of the $1000+ coin is getting the real deal, he does have a return privilege.

Over $2100.00 for a PCGS MS70 DMPL and has obvious diagonal lines. I guess the lines bother me more than others especially when I know they exist without them.

Well mine looks about dmpl as the ones I'm seeing on ebay. I wonder how many of these will just stay in OGP like mine will? I also wonder how these will affect the prices of the OGP coins sets themselves if they have a dmpl in them?
I have examined 2 of the DMPL coins (out of the 8 graded thus far), and compared them to dozens of 70PL coins. There is indeed a difference. The DMPL coins must have been out of the first 50 or so coins struck. They do not have flow lines like the PL coins. Instead, they boast fully mirrored fields with zero frost. It is nearly impossible to distinguish the difference from a photo. You have to roll the coin to fully appreciate the difference in the depth of the mirrors.
I went through 25 coins recently and they for sure run in batches. i had 5 boxes of 5 and 4 of the boxes did not have PL or DPL coins at all. One box was entirely PL or DPL quality. i personally think the DPL coins are going to stay pretty scarce.
Thanks Numisma. I also believe a true PCGS DMPL will not have any of the lighter colored fields and zero frost when moved. Many of what are being pictured will probably only be graded PL. THat is why only one of a hundred is a true DMPL so far. I have not seen a true DMPL yet, but hope to see one in a few days.
while it appears that a ton of coins are 70PL, there is still more to the story than meets the eye. To those interested in an even deeper discussion of these interesting coins, send me an email through my website (with your PCGS handle mentioned).

166,291 sets sold as of 11/23. 1,106 graded so far is a very small percentage which I'm sure will increase dramatically by the end of the year. 0.66% of sales. Have to give those in the pipeline time to make it through they process. Lets see how the numbers look in mid December.
With a mintage of 225,000 they will be worth more than issue price in the future.
The 2013 silver mintage is 420,000 or so and these special anniversary coins are about half the mintage and with no sentimental value. The 2013 bid raw for $90 each and the 2014 bid raw for $25 at the mint. You figure it out.
Oooos! but 2012 are still 400,000 total mintage roughly. What would be the reasons the 2014 50th product would not be greater in the long run than the CDN bid per roll of the 2012 silver Kennedy half rate of $1,800? Right now roll price is roughly 500 for each of the 2014 offerings or roughly the silver kennedy roll price of 1999 despite mintage of 800,000.
<< <i>Mark. I am with you. I am still waiting for Hattick to tell us all why they will be pennies on the dollar in the years ahead. Wondercoin. >>
As this thread is about the pl & dmpl coins my comments address those coins only. As with 9 out of 10 maybe even more of the modern coins issued over the last five years plus that were slabed and sold for inflated premiums, their values have dropped considerably. Pennies on the dollar is a figurative not literal comment. If your only defense is to pick apart and or belittle someone else's opinion it only goes to show there is nothing worthwhile behind the prices. The only thing going for it is the initial hype and slow to grade and report populations. As with many coins in the past when the hype fades and the reported populations go from 10 or 20 to 1000 or 2000 the prices fade even faster. As the quantity minted or other attributes that made older coins rare fade it seams that sellers and graders are getting more far fetched reasons to try to create something they can gouge the collectors, especially the uninformed and those addicted to having a "limited edition", for more money with. It has become clear to more and more collectors every how the greed for profits has taken over.

Hattrick. I have been selling the 70PL coins to customers for a $50 premium to the non-PL version and I pay PCGS $25/coin surcharge to receive the designation on the coins in the first place. Does that sound to anyone here as a premium that will be crashing down in price in the future? I lost more money last night giving my waiter a bigger tip for cutting a birthday cake at the dinner table.
I wish I could tell you how much money I have made on the DMPL coins, but as of this moment, I have received zero back from PCGS. As I have said before, I hope that changes sooner rather than later.

In the day I sold new issue beanie babies for a premium, then as the newness faded the prices dropped,I was on to the new releases to make more money. There is no comparison of Beanie Babies which had no value to coins which have value. Just trying to show the correlation between price at initial frenzy and price after the hype fades. The second part is supply vs demand. There are far more flippers in the market in the last few years and many more bought and available for sale than before. While older coins may have higher mintages, many less were bought for resale leaving fewer high quality coins available for sale. There will always be a few winners, however most will loose the initial hype value over time.
" If you push something hard enough, it will fall over. " The 1st Law of Opposition from The Firesign Theater
Hattrick. Bear in mind that there was No frenzy for these 2014 silver Kennedy coins to begin with. In fact, sales were so poor, the mint reduced the Mintage by 75,000 sets! Even the PL coins are selling fairly cheap out of the box- again about a mere $50 more than the non-PL coins. All we have seen is an isolated 70DMPL coin or two sell for potentially too much money (maybe / maybe not).
On top of that, these coins do not grade out all that well in the 70 grade (as folks who have sent me private emails understand). PCGS 70 FS sets are selling where they are selling right now (IMHO) due to just a few sellers (count how few) offering them at very small profit margins. One or two of those sellers I believe never even submitted the coins, but rather just bought all ready graded sets from at least one "800 pound gorilla" in the coin biz comfortable with just wholesaling out there entire position for a quick and easy small profit. "First strike" ends tomorrow. Let's see what happens to prices on the FS70 sets in the weeks and months ahead on this product. You might (or might not) be surprised Hattrick.
