PCGS Coinfacts 1898-S Barber Dime MS66

Does anybody else think these first 6 images are the same 1898-S Barber Dime MS66? If so, looks like a silly registry game someone's playing on an already beautiful coin. PCGS is pure genius inventing the online registry to make a business model out of!

The POP report says 13, and the cert numbers for each coin are still valid...

Pop report 13 means that this coin has been graded 13 times right?

I didn't even think of the population reports...here's a prime example then of how irrelevant they can be.

They're not irrelevant. Pop reports show distribution of grades, not rarity of pieces. In this case it's illustrating how tough it is to actually find a 67. The fact that 7 of the 66 grades that were handed out on this date are to the same coin, accurately illustrates the rarity of the 67 grade.

Umm, really? If i owned a 66 I think I'd like to know that at least 5 published data points are BS.
  • That's funny. Here's another interesting one I came across recently...1856-O 25c. But this time the submitter(s) got a bit luckier image

You'll see that phenom all over Coinfacts, especially with expensive coins.

When I see this has happened for a coin I'm considering, it's certainly off-putting to see the coin go in a few times then upgrade. Even if the coin is nice, I still get the feeling I'm being taken advantage of and honestly, I'm less inclined to purchase.
