This medal went to space ... Columbia metal medal

Yep you read it right. This is a space medal made of space metal image

Probably the only medal from my uncle's box that I won't sell. Always wanted to be an astronaut when I was a boy.

    Damn that is so cool.
    I'm jealous.
Keep that in your family for generations.
Or give it to me, which ever you think is best.

    Check this out

Apollo 11 MFA GOLD medal! VIP EDITION!
    Gold plated, very rare!

Apollo 11 Coin Minted From Metal From the Eagle Lunar Module and the Columbia Command Module

The coin bears an artist’s rendition of Neil Armstrong standing on the lunar surface with the American flag.

Around the rim is inscribed, “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED, JULY 20, 1969.”

The other side of the coin is inscribed with:

“This Medallion contains metal from spacecrafts Columbia and Eagle that took Astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on their historic Apollo 11 mission that resulted in the first landing of man on the moon.”

    Wow, how about that!

I'm pretty sure this one isn't gold-plated, and even if it was, part of that value would be the gold plating. But man that's way more than I thought this would sell for.

Still don't want to sell it by any means but that's neat.

And impressive you were able to Google(?) so quickly. I've been researching these medals for a couple weeks and have largely come up empty handed.
