Some Coins Just Get NO RESPECT !!

I stopped at a coin show Saturday in the Dallas area. Among the dealer's junk boxes was one marked 10 for 25 cents. It was mostly Canadian Pennys, 1 Euro Cents, various little 1 cent equivalent coins from around the world.

I look for interesting cheap coins (odd shapes, minted hole in the center, bimetallic) for the Boy Scouts Coin Collecting Merit Badge.

However, in the US coins in the box were 6 Liberty Head Nickels, nothing rare or great condition, and 2 gouged Washington Quarters, and a pair of Roosevelt dimes that had the "left in the console, spilled coffee, and bonded together" crud.

At 2.5 cents apiece, how could I resist?

I thought about paying for the coins with one of the Washington quarters, but just used some of my change.

Very true any unusual coin, rare or not will be collectable to the right person.

It's strange but as collectors get more "experienced" they whiz by these junk boxes full well knowing as they have became more "experienced" they realize treasures great and small have been uncovered by a knowing eye.

I hardly see a "junk box" at a show NOT being refiled through. Its almost impossible sometimes to get to look at one ! LOL Ive seen guys waiting in line to get to the "junk box" at some dealers tables.

I know some dealers "salt" their junk boxes. Most of them likely hope a young collector gets the "finds", but anyone that enjoys the thrill of the hunt can join in.
