I have a $10 Ebay coupon....and I am bored.

This is PCGS coin related.

Decided to find a PCGS graded coin on Ebay that costs as close to $10 but not over, shipping included.

Not expecting much, but here goes!

Plenty of coins to choose from at $10. Lots of Prez dollars and state quarters.

Decided to go old school and who can resist a birth year coin.

Who can blame you. That's the name of the game. $9.95 is pretty good. I think once I might have gotten something for $9.99 but usually I have $1 or so leftover. image

How about going for a little 90% silver then when you sell it you can put it towards a nice PCGS graded coin that you really want. That's what I do with coupons and bucks to convert them to something useful before they expire.

You'll be lucky if you can get more than 50 cents face with free shipping but it's free LOL image

A bit of a story, EOC. I opened my Ebay account in 2000. The fees were 2.5% up to $1000* and 1% after that. The final value fee on a $2000 coin was $35. No store needed.

Now it costs $120 for the same sale, if you pay Ebay $16.00 bucks a month for the store subscription. For that reason, the efficient and liquid Ebay market for graded coins over a few hundred bucks has ground to a fraction of what it had been.

A nuisance for some, a diminished livelihood though for others that quit other jobs when they saw an opportunity. Not just in coins of course, but several other categories.

We seemed to have embraced socialism in America when it comes to bailing out banks and auto workers and paying for the neighbors medical care. We of course revert to capitalism when Ebay wishes to quadruple fees.

Fair enough, but yes, to many, Ebay does suck.

*fees were higher in the $0-50 bracket a decade ago.

And in 2000 you could submit a modern (1959+) coin to PCGS for $10, which is now $16 (1965+) up 60%

I've learned the best way to make money with eBay is to short their stock.

    No relevance....sorry.

A percentage of a sale price should not move merely due to inflation. As an example, A $20 Saint would have sold for $500 in 2000 and generated $12.50 in Ebay fees. Same coin was $2000 a few years ago and would have generated $35 under the old fee structure.

Ebay would have covered the inflation cost by an increase in average sale cost, not by swiping an ever larger piece of the pie.

I'd look for a nice silver art bar for that would be close to spot after a 10dollar discount.
