More Stacks Bowers website problems
I swear, someone at Stacks Bowers just has to fix their stinking website. If I were them, I'd be completely embarrassed by it!!!
I just was attempting for the last twenty minutes to make my final reviews of some coins. I clicked on a coin with 1 minute left in the auction, and the website just locked up on me.....I could not get to any of the coins. The auction ended with me sitting here screaming at my computer (the SB website).
The same thing happened to me Sunday. I put in a bid for $158 on a coin (upping my bid from $75), with 10 seconds left in the auction. The SB website locked up and didn't accept the bid. When the auction ended, I was shown as the winning bidder at $75. Then, AFTER the auction ended, I find out someone else placed an $80 bid and won the auction.
Both times, after the auction was over, I get an error remark on the website stating "A critical error has occurred. An unexpected error has occurred".
I'll tell you what the error is. Whoever designed the website SUCKS!!!
This SB website is the ABSOLUTE WORST one I think I've ever seen.
Frankly, I"m DONE with Stacks Bowers!

The Stack's screen of death:
<< <i>just had a similar experience and posted about it in the "utter garbage" thread.
The Stack's screen of death:
While that screen was on my computer, somehow several of my then-leading bids at $260 were jumped to $410 each... still under my max, but it sucks that some were able to get through and others not.
Edited to add that I had only put in a high max a bit earlier as I noticed the site coming to a crawl with around 8-10 minutes to go and I just wanted to make sure I won the coins... if they had a site that could handle the traffic, I would have sniped them at the last minute and likely won them a bit cheaper

collector: "Hi, I can't figure out the website to see if I won any lots in today's internet auction, at least I think it was an internet auction"
Stack's CS: "Let me check the database..."
<< <i>Maybe QDB should step in. His name is on the door. >>
I think about that also.

I usually do not put in early bids, but did today for some reason. I can't believe the deals I got. (Assuming I am going to get them)
No way no how would I consign a coin to Stacks because it is obvious here that the consignors are not receiving all the bids they should!
<< <i>I agree with all above. After months I finally decided to try Stacks again(couldn't even pull up the website before). Couldn't pull up my old account....had to register a new account and called to make sure it would work. I have no idea if I won anything. I know I tried to bid on a coin with over 2 minutes left and got the screen of death. I don't think this is so much website design as much as it is a lack of bandwidth...alias get off the pot and pay for the service you need Stacks!!!

Or just give up on the every coin ends at the same time method of selling coins and let coins sell one by one like most other companies, that solves the bandwidth issues and is much more fair to consigners.
Only real downside is that there are less that slip through and end up being steals for the buyers, but when you can't count on your bids being executed in the last few minutes, I'd rather give up the few extra steals in return for knowing I can win the coin if I pay enough!

That's why I take my business elsewhere.
<< <i>I put in my bids early. Have been getting outbid notices in my email for 2 days. Finally today about 2:00 got 3 outbid notices for the same item(one that I was really interested in) Just looked at my invoice, and the coin is on there. Who knows if I won any of the coins on the invoice. >>
just checked, got an invoice on the two bids I was able to get in today. Both represent excellent deals for me
If the website was quicker, could have had a few more
Luckily I was able to buy one coin that I will be featuring here shortly.
Time to upgrade those Pentium III servers SB!
Nor did I get an email confirming I had won any items, yet I watched the auction as it went off and no one bid higher...
<< <i>Has anyone received an invoice for tonights auction yet? None of my wins are showing up in the shopping cart.

Not 100% reliable

go to your account and check for invoices. The invoice is there or you can view it by clicking on PAY NOW or whatever the button says.
The checkout process was very easy, they have that going for them.

I never had this issue with Teletrade! What gives...they have what they need to make it work!

Except they don't accept E-Checks!
<< <i>I am no sure why you guys even bother. If I want extra aggravation in my life, I will take an extra shift at work, do a line item review of my wife's Nordstrom bill or have dinner with my in-laws.
I blame the people who keep consigning coins I want to SB. Doesn't look like SB is fixing things quickly. As a consigner I would look elsewhere.

How frustrating it is to first track down the lot number via a paper catalog or online PDF, then go to the Price Realized to only see that it's not listed (Because it did not sell) and then have to go through the entire online catalog to view the lot once again because you can't search by Lot Number.
What a pain !!

<< <i>Why do the lots that one is tracking disappear from your "Tracked Lots" if the reserve is not met and goes unsold ?
What a pain !!
It's not just the ones where the reserve wasn't met or it went unsold. EVERYTHING from your tracked list that you didn't bid in disappears immediately following the auction. Some coins I just want to see what they sell for... can't do that on Stacks/Bowers. At least I can't figure out how. But on Heritage I can still check out things that were in my watch list from years ago...

<< <i>For what it is worth I questions several of the Stacks folks about these various comments.... my response was basically that they have spent 2 Million dollars revamping the website (please dont shoot the messenger, just telling you what they told me) Also that they receive less complaints on it then they did when it was Teletrade (some of the same people worked for both) and that they had switched the outsourced company..... Also that they were working backwards to improve the site for folks who have older computers which is where many issues had in the past happened....again I dont know fact or fiction ...Im only passing on what they mentioned >>
thanks.
Seems that they have CHOSEN to receive fewer complaints and perhaps that people are abandoning the site and therefore not complaining.
I think the federal government spent hundreds of millions on a website and that website sucked. Money spent doesn't equal good results.

I hope they still have the receipt!

And the fact that they switched the outsourced company says a lot about their internal reality

I have said this many times - get your bids in early at Stacks/Bowers and that accomplishes a couple things: (1) peace of mind that your bid is locked in on the coins you strongly desire; (2) website problems now work in your favor - if the website fails to work in the last five minutes or whatever, the higher chance you will win the lots you have bids on. A simple concept.
Finally, and I will say it again .. SB is no longer a public company and now has every reason (and no legal excuses) to be on these boards addressing customers' complaints. It is a major mistake not to in my humble opinion.
