What is going on with this 42 Mercury dime's date?

It is a D mintmark, but no 42/1 D varieties (keep in mind, the 42/1 D coins are much less obvious DDOs than the P mints) I see look doubled above. What is this? Just PMD?

If so, it's the common 'ejection' or 'mechanical'
doubling that is extremely common on many
many coins of all dates and denominations,
including lots of Mercury Dimes............
