a couple toned quarters

so the 1965 is in for grading...1st non sms 1965 i've ever sent in...grade opinions welcome

so this 62 proof is incoming ( my birth year)...i found it a lil on the special side too

Gorgeous 65.If it wasn't for the hits on the neck I would grade it MS67.

that's where i stumble on grades...as this is one of those "luster kings"
it seems it should get an extra point for luster

i've seen way too many struck like a moose...no hits or minors...sit below a "luster king" that has hits and softer strike

leading me to believe....lofty is separated by luster and luster gets an extra point for the most part

That 1965 is one of those coins were the grade is irrelevant
It would fit in anyone's high quality toned set.

Great coins and great photographs of them. Congrats on the pick ups.

Regarding the 1965, I find it very interesting that there have been multiple threads over the years that posted photographs of MS 1965 quarters (both SMS and Circulation strikes) that have gorgeous multicolored toning. I have 2 or 3 of these coins myself and they are among my favorite clad quarters. Surprisingly 1966 and 1967 MS quarters, particularly the Circulation strikes, are not available (at least in my experience looking for them since 1998 when I returned to the hobby) in multicolored toned condition. Most of the 1966 and 67 MS quarters I have seen are mundane to ugly in appearance.

What's up with that!!!!

As for the 1962 proof quarter, it is a keeper. Some of the most eye appealing Cameo and DCAM/UCAM silver proof coins I have seen are those which have thickly frosted, snowy white central devices on both sides that are contrasted with deep mirrored fields and frosted peripheral devices that have toning [single color, or better yet multi color] that is heavier at the rims and that gets progressively lighter as you travel from the rims towards the center of the coin. This type toning acts as an eye appealing frame surrounding the central devices.

What is even better is finding CAM proof coins of all five denominations from the same year that have the same type of toning. Put those in a deep blue Capital holder with gold embossed lettering and you have a proof set that will knock your socks off.

I have a 1962 proof set in OGP that contains a CAM quarter which has for some reason toned a very attractive deep orange color across 100% of the surfaces of the coin. There is no break in the mint cello that would let a toning agent into the sealed pouch the quarter is sitting in. The other four coins in the proof set have not toned at all. A very strange proof set. I wonder what it is that caused only the quarter to completely tone over and whether the toning agent was present on the coin, or on the cello, or in the air at the time the coin was hermetically sealed into the mint cello.

Again, gorgeous coins.

This is a toned Proof I recently picked up.

I watched it go through the auction site about 3 different times with no bids.
It always caught my eye and I finally said enough is enough.

Normally I'd only go for a CAM or DCAM for this late of a date but I wanted to give it a good home.
