**Coins that sell above book value challenge**. Should be fun.
I'm hoping this can be a long, fun thread. What we are looking for are coins that sell higher than book value. Simple enough but I think set some certain parameters
1) "Book value" needs to be Red book, NGC Guide, or PCGS guide only.
2) "Higher" is relative but I think a coin that regularly sells for 150% its said book value is a good start. The higher the better---that is the point
This should be fun. It is a hard task to do. I am sure there are (I can list a few off top of my head) ' SUPER OBSCURE' coins that sell above their book value but the golden goose here is to find a coin that is popular but for some reason is way undervalued in price guides compared to what it sells for. I can think of a popular US coin that sells for WAY above its book value and has for years. I bet if this thread gets popular somebody will get it.
I think the biggest hint is to look at VAMS, errors, and just not standard designations that coins get (Like coins with special grading labels or things like DMPL, etc. etc).

<< <i>Are you asking about a particular minting that is undervalued by price guides? Or examples that are worth quite a bit more (i.e., extraordinarily eye-appealing ones)?

No not really.
There are plenty of coins I am sure we all agree are undervalued.
This is to find a coin(s) that is listed in price guides but actually sells (at auction and such) for substantially more. There are coins like this. I've always love find a coin and looking up on PCGS and then going over to Heritage and seeing said coin is selling for way more.
Make sense?
to this subject...1965-67 sms in dcam.....(except the half and nickel denominations...these are common)
but those others
total pops to acquire that lofty designation are in most cases one that can be counted on one hand
right venue...they'd never trade at or below price guide
