Cherrypicker Variety

Since Cherrypickers Guide coins have their own number Is there suppose to be a variety charge for them?

    1956 5C DDO FS-101 (FS-035.4) PCGS#: 38552

They are wanting me to pay a variety fee. I was under the impression that no fee was required for them if they have their own PCGS#.

The one I'm talking about is a proof. It wouldn't go in that set anyway.

The rule is no fee if it is in the redbook, and you don't use the variety number for the FS coins.

For example the 1945-Micro S has multiple numbers.

    5061 without fb (no fee)
    5062 with fb (no fee)

145414 without FB ($24 attribution fee)
145415 with FB ($24 attribution fee)

Both versions will fill the spot in the variety set the regular (4 digit number) doesn't show the FS number on the label, but it will show that number when added to the set. I will always opt for the standard variety number if the coin has one, as it will save you the $24 fee. Many of the varieties don't have a number, so those would need the fee. There is no extra value if the coin is in the six digit number holder.

great thread as i could learn a thing or 2 on this

i was surprised to see the + in front of dates and clicked it and found it opened up
    when did they do this?

i still find it strange...no + in front of 1935-s peace dollar...those 4 ray reverse's seem to get lil respect for having an extra ray

everything in life is but merely on loan to us by our appreciation....lose your appreciation and see

The bottom line is if you have to click the "+" next to the PCGS # to see the variety, there IS a fee, otherwise, no attribution fee

Actually, the Rule is, if you want an FS Number on the slab, it's going to cost you the Variety Attribution fee.

It has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the coin is in a registry set or even the RedBook.

Example: I can submit an Accented Hair Kennedy under coin number 6801, get Accented Hair on the Slab label and pay no attribution fee.

    OR

I can submit an Accented Hair Kennedy under coin number 145625, get Accented Hair on the label along with FS-401 and I'll have to pay the $24 Attribution Fee.

I can submit a 1955/55 under coin number 2825 and get Doubled Die on the label and pay no attribution fee

    OR

I can submit a 1955/55 under coin number 37910 and get Doubled Die on the label and FS-101 and I'll have to pay the $24 Attribution Fee.

The basic rule is if there is a new FS Number associated with the variety AND its not a well established variety (i.e. newly recognized in the CPG and only the CPG) then its going to cost you the $24 attribution fee.

The 1956 DDO Jefferson Proof is a CPG Variety coin. As such, it's going to cost the $24 attribution fee.

The Accented Hair Kennedy and 1955/55 Lincoln, were in existence well before the CPG was invented.

Whether its considered a Major Variety or a Minor Variety is up to the Registry People who really have no say on what PCGS will or will not attribute. I know as I've been down that road before.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
