Surprise auction win: pretty toned 1911 nickel

rheddenrhedden Posts: 6,650 ✭✭✭✭✭
Bought this 1911 Liberty nickel in PCGS PR65 in a recent auction. Internet-only, dark/colorblind photos, scratched up slab. Of course it sold for less than greysheet, even with the juice. So I open up the package today, and I find a PQ, 2-sided rainbow toner. There was just no indication of the beautiful, iridescent colors in the photos. The look on my face must have been priceless, but I didn't see it. image

Disclaimer: my photos are only slightly better than the auction house's. The actual coin has mirrored surfaces with transparent, pastel colors, whereas the surfaces look chalky in the photo. Will be in my Registry set in about 5 minutes here...

That has some killer toning goin' on.

Needless to say, that coin deserves some spiffy new images.

You seem to be on a roll lately...
