Authenticity Unverifiable

Was hoping for a PO-01, but she came back Authenticity Unverifiable. I guess just too much wear to make it into the slab.

The last digit in date is 7, so either 1887 or 1897.
The TPG wouldn't take on the liability of accuracy for a coin worth melt ?

They won't holder it unless they can verify the date and mint. A date does not need to be present in some cases. For example, if you have an 1888-O Hot Lips, you can squeak a PO-01 without a date.

I sent it in using up my grading vouchers before they expired, it was just for kicks.

They should have slabbed it as Genuine-Poor details,Date and Mint unverifiable. I dont think the authenticity is in question.

1916 standing liberty quarter comes to mind as a case example

Did you still pay the grading fee?

I have submitted a few very worn twenty-cent pieces that came back Genuine (96 - No service/Refund) and I wonder if their policy has changed as people hoping for "PO-01" coins submit more and more extremely worn coins.

I sent in with the free grading voucher. No big deal.

The one coin of mine I sent for lowball a couple years ago came back No Decision/Refund. I imagine as the lowball sets became more popular, more and more coins started showing up like this, perhaps making them stingier with their refunds in these cases. Otherwise I could see submitters that feel they have nothing to lose by trying over and over again wasting a lot of time with these.

PCGS couldn't decide so I sent it to NGC. They were torn too.
