Image is missing. I am guessing that you bought it because:

    A) It is a better variety
    B) The price was right
    C) It is an original coin that has not been cleaned
    D) The year has a sentimental significance

That's my shotgun approach to a guess.

I don't see the obv die break indicating this is one of the '61O's struck from the Confederate die.
Not aware of any major overdates, like this one seems to kind of show, just a minor repunched date.

Mint error of upside down 1981 date

You bought it because you remembered that 1861 is 100 years before my birth year of 1961..

Thnx for the early birthday presentimage

looks like there's the nose of another digit peeking out of the upper left of the "8". that's all I can tell. Maybe rim filing around 12:00.

Counterfeit. The fields are too clean and the date looks off. Looks like it was made yesterday.

Your going to solder it to a money clip?

a few of you got it. The coin is fake, but has the confederate reverse and has a decent look and didn't cost me anything. Fits nicely in my seated half album.
Not sure if this is recent or an older casting, at first glance the obverse is passable and the color looks good. The reverse is laughable.
