The 2000 Library of Congress bi-metals sure got cheap!

$1200 and change

With of a low mintage of 6000 plus, these were selling at $3000 plus a couple of years ago.

....air certainly came out of them.

That's way under market. My recommendation is to buy at $1200!

Heck on the bright side that has to be close to the bottom for those as I am almost tempted to buy one.

Don't have one, but would like to own one. Seems like a fluke since it was an auction. Seem most are BINs in the $2K range and history of past auctions seem in the $2k range.

A PR70DCAM went pretty cheap recently too.

Proofs are worth less than the MS (higher mintage). But you're right, even that is a little cheap too.

Looks like the MS69s are around $2k and the MS70s $2600 - $3K on FeeBay. I think (don't remember exactly) that the prices on these were about $3K and upto $4000+ on these a few years back.

There was one MS70 which went for NGC MS70 which sold on Oct. 9 for $2043 in a true auction. I wish that I'd have seen that one at the time.

If you check Heritage archives, $3000 was the price in 2012. Last several sold in the $1400-1500 range.

    Auction Prices Realized

Seems like the MS 69 have dropped in the $1400 range. MS70 are in the 2K range. MS 70s have took a sharp drop from 2013 where they were still holding steady in the 3k range.

I personally would by a raw one in the $1000 range. Have no idea where these are heading.

I saw this with the 1995 W 69s where they fell again to the $2800 range for a brief period about 3 years ago and than rapidly went back up into the $4k range. Unfortunately, I sold mine in the decline but it was for the price I had originally paid for it in 05. Whether the same can be said for these bi metallics I have no clue. Seems less collectors are chasing these or want one now.

I remember the 95 W drop. I never understood what dynamic was behind it. Was a good buying opportunity - in hindsight, of course.

Even more interesting when you consider the premium over bullion. Only $700 when the coin is at $1400 vs a whopping $2300 or so at $3000.
