My very late Silver Dollar Show report.
Our daughter and I left for Saint Charles early on Thursday morning. My wife decided to stay home and relax. After an hour and a half on the road I remembered that I had forgotten 5 PCGS coins that I had gotten out of the lock box on Wednesday. I was going to use them for trade or to sell if I needed the money. We arrived in the Saint Charles area in the middle of rush hour. We got to our hotel without any delay. The other side of the interstate was another story. I believe it was the worst traffic jam that I have ever seen. We settled into our hotel and went to bed early.
After breakfast on Friday morning ( it was not very good ) at our hotel we headed to the show. We arrived about 15 minutes before it opened. This show had started on Thursday. There was only 5 or 6 people waiting for the show to open at 10 AM. . I immediately noticed that this was the deadest show ( there were 10 dealers that had not shown up including Heritage and Stack's ) that I had seen since 2008-2009. I made it around the 100 dealer bourse in about an hour and a half. The only thing that interested me was an 1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar in PCGS AU 53. It had very nice light old toning. The price was fair but since it was a lot of money ( for me ) I decided to think about it for awhile. After some more time on the floor we decided to go out for a Chinese lunch.
During lunch I was thinking about the coin. When we finished eating I opened my fortune cookie. My fortune said " You shouldn't overspend at the moment. Frugality is important ". I decided to pass on the coin.
We went back to the show. I saw an 1861 D $1 Gold in PCGS MS 61 priced at $85,000 and a very nice 1854 D $5 in PCGS MS 62. One dealer had an entire case of slabbed Seated Dollars. I don't recall seeing that many before in one case.
I did find a couple of much lesser priced coins to buy. We left the show around 3 PM.
On Saturday we drove a couple of hours to visit my aunt and several cousins on their farms. Our daughter got to feed a 3 week old calf a bottle. That night we had a wiener roast. We drove about 2 hour towards home that night.
Sunday morning we headed for home. We got home around 4 PM.
I got to play with coins and we had a great weekend. Life is good.

Sounds like a good time with the family was indeed the order of the day.
The overall lack of energy and attendance of the show, along with other recent threads on Ebay sales, is a bit disturbing.
It's a good thing you had some family with you there as to make the trip into something more worthwhile.

<< <i>Sounds like a nice family outing. Thanks for the report. What would you have done if your cookie fortune had said "Opportunity knocks loud"?
Or if your daughter's fortune cookie said "you snooze, you lose"?
Thanks for the report.
