I'm skeptical of authenticity. The 9 and the 6 in date look too crude.

I don't doubt authenticity, but some hairlines on the cheek make me say it's a slider AU58. I have seen such coins land in MS holders anyway, but I won't personally buy them as BU if they have the aforementioned cheek lines.

Compared OPs coin to some in PCGS slabs on ebay. It looks like the date is ok, just an ugly job on the date that year. Agree with rhedden on the slide marks. Wouldn't want this coin for
anything other than a 58. BTW, lots of this date on the bay in all PCGS grades.

Definitely not unc, and I think others are being kind calling it a 58, assuming the images accurately represent the coin's look. AU.

Flat spots on lower nose, forelock, cheek, eye brow, etc. seem to suggest AU. You'd expect better for a 1916 Philly dime. The photos do make the 9 and 6 look "crude."

The rest of the coin does have an unc look.

Thanks, I've decided to buy an ANACS MS62, old small holder, 1914 dime to break out for my 20th C. type set.

Definitely looks AU to me. And, definitely genuine. The date is just fine.

Could just as easily be a MS as an AU 58.

Its much nicer than a 55. Hard to tell from the image.
