<< <i>I have been offered under 1000.00 for my PCGS MS/PR 70 set First strike.....This seems high based on that. >>
Great Collections selling the 2011 sets NGC 70s for about 1100.00...... PCGS Mercantis a little more The 2011 S 70 sells for about 300.00 ..The Reverse 70 proof sells for about 500.00..... Coin vault not that far off
<< <i>I think even at $1,000, the price is a bit high. >>
In last 3 months the prices have dropped... dealers paying in the eights for the set .. 1000.00 retail is still cheap.. If you are holding 70s beware of the spots.. seeing more and more of spots on the 2011 silver Anniv sets Seeing many more on 2006 Silver Anniv coins with spots
I remember when they first sold for around $2300 for a PCGS FS70 Set. The $1K price range has held steady for a few years now. Looks like its going nowhere right now- up or down.
The series is going on 30 years. I think collectors are weary.
The mint is thinking of doing a Weiman walking liberty gold next year. If they were smart they would wait til 2016 and sell it along with a high relief silver for the 30th Anniversary. A gold and silver 30 Anniversary Set where the you have a bimetallic gold and silver enhanced ASE which can only purchased in the set.
pf70, I agree that would make for a wonderful set. I just can not believe how these have fallen. I would guess it is the economy, people just do not have the extra money to spend on non necessities. It is a sad situation we have on our hands. we have not seen anything yet! With the waning of collectors, prices fall.

I think it's just "Beanie Baby Syndrome." The Mint produces something which perceived to be a valuable/desirable must have by the public, it gets hyped and sold at unrealistic prices, and soon they're on to the next one. Take a look at what happened to the price of 1999 Silver Proof State Quarter sets.
"It's far easier to fight for principles, than to live up to them." Adlai Stevenson
It will be interesting to see if the ASE collectibles will decline when the mint decides to end the series. Out of sight. Out of mind. The market declined considerably for high grade 70 silver proof quarters when the program ended especially the 70 grade. The Delaware 70 still holds some value, but very few buyers. In 2006, I sold my 1999 NGC PF70 Silver Set for $5200. I bought the set for $1500. I would be lucky if I could sell that set for $2200-$2400 today.
