A pair of 1915's

I picked up the pcgs coin for my set and then within a couple of weeks I saw this fantastic NGC and could not let it go.

Don't do Lincolns, but those are very attractive. The purple one looks like a MPL. These are considered hammered right?

I do not think our host would certify the second one. Slammed strike on both.

That's interesting, as it's clearly the nicer of the two (even though it's a lower grade).

PCGS is tough on blue toning on copper. NGC not as much. AMRC knows this.

    Agree about the great strikes.

I can see why you bought them both. I've found all the teens to be irresistible in anything over 64.

Yes, PCGS holders less blue and purple MS Lincoln's but I've got a few that could kick off a smurf thread that they hollered 65bn, so who knows. It's sort of funny to me that even though they seem to snub them it never seems to keep us Lincoln heads from loving and buying them anyway.

I'd love to hear the plot explanation behind why this is from each company. Is it simply personal taste of people in power, actual hard evidence of doctoring (proof coins of these colors deemed ok because shipped in paper? Like MS coins never got around paper?) or market strategy. Nobody knows with these companies, we're just left to submit, submit, submit and draw our own conclusions or superstitions.

I must say, I like my Lincoln's with color variety, nicely done coppertoning.
  • Uh oh there is a typo!! Both coins are 65's I suppose I was so focused on the coin I did not notice. I will have Bob fix it

    Thanks for the compliments everyone

I have some pcgs blues and I have seen plenty I have also seen some ngc rejected so IDK?

I think it has a chance as this is right off coin facts.

I sold this one to a forum member not long ago. PCGS graded it 65BN, which I think is a little conservative.

I love brown copper when it's attractive. Don't have to worry about it turning brown in the holder. image
