Things To Ponder................

I was thinking today about cards and the people that collect them. If you think about it, we are a very diverse group yet we share similarities. Sometimes we criticize each other based on what or how we collect. Some of us collect the highest grade possible........PSA 9 and 10's of iconic cards. Some of us collect mid-grade cards. Others collect high eye appeal, lower grade cards. Some of us were smart to collect un-opened when others didn't pay attention to it (yeah, screw you Tim and Mike......LOL). We have some that can spend $30K on a sealed case and others only $5 on a card. A lot of guys like the modern auto low #'d rookies. While some like auto's and memorabili or you have the guys that like to collect their favorite teams or players. Some play the PSA registries and others like raw. One guy pays a premium for centering while the other for corners.

What I am getting at is in the big scheme of things, we are a small knit fraternity. At the end of the day we have more in common than we have differences. Sometimes we get in verbal/keyboard commando wars. It happens. Just remember, we are the guardians of the next generation. How we act is watched by the next generation. So the next time you want to get into a flame war with someone, take a deep breath, walk away from the computer and go to the next thread. You will feel better and you will set a good example for your/our kids.

Not trying to be preachy but was on my mind. Now, on with your regular scheduled programming.

Well said. It's the "collectors helping collectors" aspect of these boards that has me addicted. I don't come for the bickering, I come to learn something (every day!) and to help others when I can. I don't have any serious collectors in my family or circle of friends, just my children, so this community is invaluable to me.

Billy Wagner all-time relief pitcher rankings (500+ innings)

LOB% - 1ST (probably THE most important stat for a reliever)
AVG - 1ST
K/9 - 1ST (also all-time for ALL pitchers)
K% - 1ST
ERA - 2ND
ERA- - 2ND
WHIP - 3RD
FIP- - 3RD
WAR - 4TH
FIP - 4TH
Saves - 5TH
Ks - 6TH
K/BB - 6TH

In no way a HOFer? Not top-5 or top-10 all-time? Give me a break.

Excellent excellent points. I agree that in the end it ends up hurting us all. People gradually participate less then eventually leaves the hobby. Which helps no one here. Too many key board warriors that type things they wouldnt say in person, act as bullies which I hope they're teaching children better and harrass others over petty jealousies. But I guess if it makes them feel better......

Being on This board is more therapeutic and rewarding to me then my posts portray.

I've done a trade or two with some of the guys here and a few of the 2012-2013 group breaks.

Posts like this from Cincy reinforce I am in the right hobby. Thanks for the great thoughts Cincy

I do hope to finally meet some of you guys at a National in 2015 or 2016

Until then will keep reading and learning.

I think the diversity of all of our collections is what makes us unique. It would be boring if we all had the exact same cards in the same condition. I really enjoy seeing when everyone picks up a card or looking at their collection and love seeing the passion when someone gets a card they are excited about. This is what makes this hobby fun.

I like Roses, but nothing beats a nicely buttered Cobb.

(although Im not sure they even had numbers back in the day, if not, no number
= 0.) And there you have it
