Attend a Rock Concert or Purchase a $100 Coin?

I grew up in Utah.

First coin .90 cent Barber Dime (circa 78-79 - Silver was no inflation hedge for me) pulled from a dealer's junk box - age 11-12.

First concert - The Osmonds at age 14! No lighters, no passing joints around, just stuck with my parents and 5,000 sober Mormons.

One of my biggest clients were the concert promotors in St Louis from late 60's to 1998.

I bought tickets in the 1990's at ALL of their shows so there weren't many performers I did not see.

The earliest shows I recall seeing was in the 60's. Ike and Tina Turner and Four Seasons.

Concerts , of course , trump coins because music has a nicer ring and larger "circle" which encompasses and doesn't seem to "bifurcate" so much, but the truth is

I would rather spend the hundy on the coin and buy my favorite artist's music online

Or it may have been The Mothers of Invention (Frank Zappa)... 1969-70
Mahavishnu Orchestra in there somewhere too... I'm pretty sure Mayall first.
Not sure which was first..... Some amazing times!!!!!

(saw all those, and more, I'm sure,
just on Sunset Blvd. in the '60's)

Jimi Hendrix & others at Devonshire Downs
in the San Fernando Valley (near my college)

And, I was in 'Stage Crew' in high school, and
for a Sports Night, we had the Buffalo Springfield
appear - popular in LA, and just before "For What
It's Worth" came out - I ran the light show from the
back of the auditorium, and during their break, I got
to have a beer with ALL of them, sitting down in the
Girls (!) Gym........THAT was an experience !

I spent a lot more money on coins than concerts. The first I saw was Lynyrd Skynyrd back in 1987. I keep all my old ticket stubs in a photo album. And what is peculiar are there are some shows like Aerosmith, Guns & Roses etc that I wouldn't even remember but for the ticket stub. Must have at the very least been rather inebriated at a lot of the shows. The best concerts were Metallica and Lita Ford.

I am not sure if Simon & Garfunkel 1966 count as a rock act, so it would have to be the Doors & Canned Heat or Janis Joplin in Frankfurt 1970. I forget which I saw first, maybe the Doors.

Did not buy a $100 coin until I got back in the hobby in 2000. I could never afford $100 for a coin back when I was young, that was more than my share of the rent.

First concert ever: Plasmatics at the santa monica civic 1980.
i probably have been to over a thousand more before i bought a $100 coin. have most of the ticket stubs as well.
bought around 2005; 32D washington in AU/MS60 for $110

The best part of the Doors and Canned Heat concert was sitting on the stage when they came back after half an hour and did a set of blues. Their comment was there were no unions in Germany, so they wanted to play together and jam. About 1/5 of the sellout crowd was still there. It was amazing. My friend, a professional drummer wanted to talk to the Doors drummer and to my amazement, a bunch of the guys from both bands came back on stage. One of the great concert moments of my life. For the record, my own favorite concert was the Allman Bros Band in 1971 on the tour where they recorded Live at the Fillmore. Duane was the most amazing player i have ever heard.

Rock concert came way earlier. I saw my first show at age 10, and didn't start buying "expensive" coins over $100 until college. Had plenty of filled, red Saflip boxes by high school though

I already replied to this thread about my first concert but I have to say the most Memorable would be a Paul McCartney concert in Glendale, AZ followed closely by Santana and Country Joe performing at Woodstock.

I just had my first $100 purchase out to look at today.
It was a 20th anniversary Silver Eagle set.

Kenny G. is very good! I've seen him twice in concert. He puts on a great show. Anyone that goes to see him would agree. He's awesome and his band rocks too! Any Kenny G. fans?
