Help identifying these marks?

Does anyone recognize what these marks are? Could they be grease on the die? I found several of these in an OBW roll of 2006-P nickels. Thanks for your help. image
Looking for info on MN national banknotes from New Ulm, Sleepy Eye, Mankato, Hanska, and Lake Crystal. Also Two Harbors, Duluth, Brainerd, and Ely.

  • looks to be struck through grease or something else. It is a bit hard to tell from the pic though. Do the marks change at all from coin to coin or are they exactly the same?
  • They change from coin to coin. I found about 5 in the roll with similar marks, but the size/extent changes although it's the same area.

  • In that case I would say struck through grease or some such sticky material.

    Agree.

Interesting but fairly common. Doesn't have any real value but that nickel is certainly worth saving.
