Do You Find Yourself Continually Upgrading?

I find myself perpetually upgrading. I find reason after reason to say "this one's better than my example" I'm going for it. Is there ever an end. Not for me. I'm going on about 33 years of that now. How about you?

Lucy bought a brand new car in 2001 and had to upgrade the paint. The car was still with the dealers sticker.....Yep, gotta upgrade as many Franklins as I can, and still gobble up the ms64fbl's that I like.....

    Hi Russ,

I saw your Vette... Very Nice!
Since I have your attention and you are the Ultimate Kennedy Guru, how about this Kennedy http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1386575378 I have up? Man I purchased this for much more than an I'm asking. Am I asking too much?

I wish. Can't get many upgrades anymore for my main collection except
for an occasional late date. The "from circulation" collection is occasionally
upgraded. Found a well struck AU 69-D quarter just a few weeks back!!

    Lucy:

I was going through my Franklins yesterday - which other than my main book are average, when I came across a nasty looking 48. I put it in the "to sell" pile - upside down.

To my surprise (I bought this coin as part of a collection last month) those bell lines are perfect. The coin was in a 2 x 2 folder when I bought it and it is dark, but the strike is as good as I have seen.

I will try to scan it, or maybe take a photo of it instead.

Do these fetch much of a price?

Actually being a die variety collector, I am typically happy with what I get the first time - many of the coins I collect are what a person would consider "rare" to "extremely rare" when mmintage figures are divided by the number of dies used, then the number of actual pieces known are factored in. Many of the coins I have are one of a group of fewer than 100 like specimens known.

I still have dozens of holes to fill, far from upgrading...

Upgrading can get really expensive fast. Lately, I have tried to purchase the right coin for my collection the first time. Unlike a lot of people on this forum, when I'm done with a series, I am really done. 100% complete means just that. I stick with one series, complete it then go on to the next.

With my Barbers I will probably make one upgrade because if the day comes when I actually get to display the collection, I will have to have one coin to use for the reverse design.

Oldcameoproofsguy, I would really like to see your barber collection someday!!!! I think all of them lined up would be interesting. Do you ever do this when you go to the vault?

Upgrading is the fun part! image

Although, I'm trying to refrain from doing so until I have all the coins for my set.

No, I don't upgrade. I agree with what baseball said. Mix in a little patience with your purchases, decide what grades you want to purchase a coin in, save the money up. If not you will be stuck trying to unload coins you wish you hadn't purchased and the lower the grade the tougher it is to recoup your investment.

I am currently upgrading coins I bought years ago. My intentions are to never have to upgrade again.

Sarasota Frank, What is the Mint Mark? The D is more valuable then the P, and these ugly toned coins (if thats what it is) Tend to be the ms65's or ms66's....... So this little eyesore could be quite a find........
