What is this coin?

This coin was gifted to my son. I have looked it up but can not find any info on it. It is tiny. Gold in color.
Obverse has liberty head, I believe. Above the head it reads e. Pluribus unim. Under the head it it dated 1873 or 1878.
Reverse has an eagle and reads United States of America one dollar. It might also say in god we trust.

Okay. So you can read a possible date and some legends and the denomination. What is the diameter ? What does it weigh in grams ?

There have been many modern miniature imitations of classic U.S. coins produced by privateers such as The Morgan Mint and The Franklin Mint. Some of these were made in karat fine gold, but many are just base metal and are gold plated. These imitations were mostly in the size range of about 5 mm. diameter, and are merely novelties. The imitations referred to here were made after the implementation of the Hobby
Protection act of 1973, and these should have the word copy appearing on them.

I can't seem to locate my ruler. It is a little larger than the eraser at the end of a pencil.
