My new "ugly as sin" Trade Dollar...(redux redux-ed)

stealerstealer Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭✭
This is part two of tough to find, yet ugly as can be, Trade Dollar varieties. This was Part 1 for those of you bored enough to look at another beat to death coin.

Part 2 feat. the Trade Dollar that is Holed/Plugged/Polished/and probably many, many more abuses. The surfaces have the consistency of a Japanese Zen garden. But, hell, I've looked for this variety for a while so I happily paid full XF bid for it when I found it. 1876 2/2 Large S. Full-sized images for the full eye-sore effect can be accessed below.

One day I will stop listening to the voices in my head telling me to buy these coins.

You might have been better off getting a Beijing Trade Dollar. At least the price is right on those.

IMO stealer knows grading, risk vs reward and selling dynamics better than most collectors double and triple his age. He knows what he is doing and probably just thinks the couple hundred is worth it to have an example of a tough variety of his fav date for a few years until he finds a better one.

Links not working but not the train wreck I was expecting at ALL (from thread title, not OP's formidable skills).

    Sorry, links fixed.

Crypto, I think you're right. I do seem to have an affinity for 1876. I think I am up to 6 now. Check your email for my latest addition to the 1876 hoard image

I'd be happy the hole was repaired, even if it isn't all genuine U.S. Mint silver now, it's better than being able to see through it...
