Anyone have any info on this piece? Two Cent Magicians Prop?

Link to eBay item.

I was tracking this item on eBay, and I thought it was pretty cool, but didn't know anything about it. There are three 1864 Two Cent pieces, with an additional 6 that are welded together and hollowed out. Also comes with some type of fabric sleeve that would go over it? Anyone have any information on this, or assuming it is a magician's prop, how the trick would be done?

Unusual item - similar to a snuff box made from 2-cent pieces. This to me could suggest a cheap method of creating a deceptive box, but
one which is also large enough to hold a modest quantity of something.

2-Cent paraphernalia is unusual in it's own right, so maybe just attracted the right audience!

The way this works is you stack up the 2 cent pieces with the hollow on the bottom concealing other coins, probably 5 dimes or similar. You show the stack and the loose ones and it looks like just a stack of 2 cents. Then you slide the sleeve over the top which grips on to the whole bunch.......... abbracadabba!.................. lift it up and there are 5 dimes! You just changed 18 cents into 50 cents!

I used to have one that changed "nickels" into dimes.
